David Lynn Powers

Dave, the Man, the Myth, and the Legend left this earthly world on Saturday, March 9, 2013 on a journey in search of antique cars, collectibles, and other treasures. We wish him success, happiness and peace.

He was born May 6, 1935 in Richmond, CA to Vern Rex Powers and Jeanne Forrester Powers. Dave attended school in California and the University of Utah. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. He worked in the Engineering Department of Salt Lake City Corporation, the Utah State Department of Natural Resources, and upon retirement as a crossing guard with the Salt Lake City School District.

He enjoyed many hobbies especially collecting antique cars, various other collectibles, and sometimes just assorted junk. Dave loved to attend the Reno Swap Meet each year, car shows in Wendover, and the air show at Hill Air Force Base. He was very fond of animals and could seldom resist fostering a stray cat.

He is survived by his devoted wife Mary Jean Bernardi Powers of Salt Lake City; his brother Vernon J. Powers of Carmichael, CA; and his sister Eileen Lund of San Francisco, CA. In addition, he is survived by his nieces Dr. Mary Powers and Nancy Sweeny of California as well as Mary Jean's family and his special feline friend Lovey Dove.

There will be a visitation and gathering for family and friends on Wednesday, March 13th from 6 to 8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 14th at 11:30 AM at Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State St., Provo.

His family would like to express a special thanks to the devoted, caring, and special staff at the Utah State Veterans Nursing Home. They are truly angels here on earth.
