David Morgan Olsen
April 17, 1960 - August 3, 2010
David Morgan Olsen, was born on April 17, 1960, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Life was great as he grew up a talented athlete playing basketball and baseball for Brighton High School along the side of his hero, best friend and brother who died unexpectedly and much too soon at the age of 27. As an accomplished pianist, he along with the Mother he adored on the organ, played a final and emotional duet of love at the funeral for the brother he would spend the rest of his life missing.
For some people, the guilt of “why him and not me” can be a life changing event, a battle of the spirit that even the strongest of souls can end up losing. Dave fought his battle alone and the best way he knew how. He survived by helping others. There was not a car he could not repair, or a person he did not try to help. Much of his labor was free or nearly so. He continued a battle of survival when his material possessions and his Mother’s precious dogs, Taffy and Little Dog, were taken from him.
David had no time for self pity and he was the funniest person on the face of the earth! If you needed a good laugh, you could count on Dave! Everything was funny when he was around. He loved work under a car, at the gym, or at home and he was always busy! He was happy driving a fast car or a fast bicycle; he knew the dark streets of downtown and the bright lights of a fitness gym. He liked everyone and everyone liked him. The employees and members at Xcel Spa & Fitness were his family; if you worked at Xcel, you were lucky to be a member of Dave’s family! He was also a loved member of Charlene’s family.
God knows the true spirit of the man; he knows the true heart and soul of every person. This one belongs in heaven. Dave gave his all and continued giving even after death as a registered organ donor. Dave is survived by his many, many friends and the girl who loved him, Charlene. He also had two sisters, Janet O. Kelly and Nancy Olsen.
Please join us at Dave’s viewing to be held at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East on Sunday, August 8, 2010, from 6-8:00 p.m. Please also share in a final gathering of love, on Monday, August 9th, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Cottonwood 2nd Ward, 6890 South 2225 East (Whitmore Way) for a viewing at 10:00 a.m. and a service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Salt Lake City Cemetery. In Loving Memory
What a fun laugh you had Dave! You are one of the neatest people. Nick and I always felt so glad knowing you were taking care of the cars of our dearest friend and his grandchildren. We knew those vehicles were safe after a Dave visit! We loved that you were making our sweet friend Charlene smile and enjoy life! You are a true inspiration. With love and respect, Julie & Nick Giles

I had the honor of knowing Dave and his brother Steve in our childhood. We played a lot of baseball together, even traveling to California for the western regionals as 12 year olds. Dave was a great friend. Craig Downs

Dear Family and Loved Ones of David. The tears I have shed for your loss of Dave and way too many other family members can never take the pain away but please know that Dave was a good friend and school-mate. We were also very fortunate to have been able to stay in contact at times. Thank you for his amazing obituary,k he deserved every word. Ron and I were also blessed to have lived just a few houses up from Steve and Michelle. Your Mom played the piano for me many times when I sang in church and we loved your family. I just found out at Excel yesterday of Dave's passing. I am shocked and saddened. I was one of the many who Dave helped (fix my car) and would not allow me to compensate him for his service. He was always polite and friendly. He was and is a good soul. He will be greatly missed and my thoughts go out to his family for this way too early loss. May God grant him rest and peace.
