Delores Fechter
October 24, 1927 - March 29, 2014
Delores passed away on March 29th, 2014 at the age of 86 after many years of treatment for metastatic melanomas. She was born on October 24th, 1927, in St. Paul, MN graduating from high school in 1945 as class valedictorian. She was a working girl for a number of years, and in 1951 she married Kenneth Fechter. Their first homes were in St. James and Roseville, MN. Eventually her husband joined Univac (Sperry; Uniysis) and in 1970 they were transferred to Salt Lake City.
She was a long time member of the newcomers' club and treasured her many friendships. She was also a member of the Mt. Dell Ladies Golf, and served as past president and former club champion with 2 holes-in-one.
Delores enjoyed volunteering, bridge, crosswords, reading and occasional trips to Wendover.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth; two sons Ronald (Gloria) of SLC and Richard (Kimberly) of San Rafael, CA; and six grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, siblings and daughter Susan.
The family invites you to a celebration of her life on Saturday, April 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, with a short tribute beginning at 7:00 PM. Casual dress requested. Complimentary valet parking will be provided on the north side of the building.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in her name to Huntsman Cancer Institute, 2000 Circle of Hope, Salt Lake City, UT 84112 for melanoma research or to CNS Hospice, 383 W. Vine Street, Suite 300, Murray, UT 84123.
The family would like to thank all the caring people at Clinic D, and especially Dr. Andtbacka and Marianne. Also thanks to CNS Hospice, nurse and friend Jennifer.
In Loving Memory
Ron, Richard, and your families, I grieve with you. I never had too much time to visit with Delores, but she was one of my very favorite first cousins, lovely in every way. I tried to call Ron's house, but there was no answer. I can't be there for the service of remembrance, but I'll be thinking of you, and praying for comfort and strength. I'll never forget the hospitality Delores and Ken showed me a quarter-century ago, when I spent a week with them. I posted a photo of them, Ron, Gloria, and the kids, from that visit, on my Facebook page when I heard of Delores' passing. Wonderful memories. And I know that you have so many more of those memories to comfort you.
