Dennis Patrick Monahan
October 8, 1948 - December 24, 2008
Dennis Patrick Monahan10/8/1948 – 12/24/2008 Dennis Patrick Monahan: long time Park City Resident, loving husband and devoted father died suddenly and unexpectedly in Park City on Wednesday, December 24th, 2008. Dennis was born on October 8, 1948 in Pasadena, CA. The son of an Air Force pilot, he grew up in California, Alaska, Florida, New Mexico and upstate New York. Dennis served in the U.S. Army before attending Western State College in Gunnison, CO. After college, Dennis worked in sales and account management for several medical laboratory companies rising to the position of Vice President, National Contracts for ARUP, a well known Utah-based national laboratory reference company. Dennis had a passion for outdoor sports, especially skiing and road bicycling. He was well known on the slopes of Park City ski areas, always cheerful and willing to help new skiers and a picture of grace and fluidity as he enjoyed the slopes. An avid bicyclist, Dennis logged in countless miles of riding throughout his beloved Utah mountains as well as the many challenging road riding areas in Europe. Dennis was probably best known and will be most missed for his warm smile, friendliness and compassion for others. Family, friends, colleagues, clients and total strangers all were beneficiaries of his engaging personality, thoughtfulness and willingness to help. Dennis is survived by his wife Susan Monahan, owner of Interiors in Park City; his 15 year-old son Matt Monahan, a student at Park City High School; and his brother Mike Monahan of Denver, Colorado. An open memorial reception will held from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Sunday, December 28th at the Park City Hotel, 2001 Park City Ave., Park City. Those wishing to pay their respects are welcomed to stop by anytime during the stated hours. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted by Mountain Trails Foundation/Share the Road, PO Box 754, Park City, UT 84060, 435-649-6839.

We will miss his wonderful smile and gentle kindness, It was such a gift to have had the opportunity to work with Dennis and be able to call him friend. He never had a harsh word for anyone and shared his kind spirit with all. We pray that your happy memories will carry you through this sadness. Susan and Matt, I don't get to see Dennis often, but on his recent visit to Premier a few weeks ago we met by chance at the elevators. It was great to see his warm smile and to be greeted with his kind, pleasant words. I asked how both of you were doing, (he glowed as he said Susan was busy, and that Matt was the greatest kid on earth), he asked about my husband and two sons. It never crossed my mind that I would not have an occasion to see this wonderful man again. While I was only a business acquaintance, the times that I worked with Dennis I was acutely aware of his love and admiration of both of you, his work ethics and support of ARUP, and his overall gratitude in being part of nature and the universe. Dennis is the kind of person that makes you a better person by association. Susan and Matt, I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts. May your memories of Dennis / your Dad sustain you forever. I will miss Dennis, and I promise that he will be remembered. Joy Griffin Premier Inc. Charlotte, NC

Dearest Susan and Matt: It has been almost six months since you lost your beloved father and husband. I can only feel and appreciate your anguish and loneliness. Susan, both you and Dennis were such special people to Frank and myself. I always looked forward to our seeing Dennis at the many meetings around. He was always so inspirational and a pleasure to see again. As I will miss those special meetings I will also miss seeing Dennis there. I hope you and Matt are finding some relief in knowing that there are many jpeople who care about you and that Dennis is now in a safe and wonderful place, and hopefully having a cocktail with Frank! My prayers and thoughts are with you both daily. Love, Pat Kearns
