Devin Eric Zaharias
May 11, 1976 - April 22, 2021
On April 22, 2021, Devin was tragically taken in an accident. He left too soon but heaven gained a new special angel.
Devin was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Dan L. Zaharias (Judy Martin) and Kathy Zaharias (Jim Hammer). He grew up and graduated from Kearns High School and served time in the U.S. Coast Guard. In 2000, he married Janet Ann Elizalde and they later were blessed with two sons: Dar Leon Zaharias and Vincent Eiram Zaharias.
Devin was always a hard-working husband and father who enjoyed gaming, music, Dr. Pepper, scouting, church and most of all family.
As a young boy, Devin attended cub scouts and earned the highest rank of Arrow or Light. He later joined The First Presbyterian Church and Troop 34. In boy scouts he earned the highest ranks of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow.
When his oldest son was the right age to join cub scouts, he started volunteering as leader then moved up to boy scout leader when his son joined Troop 34.
Devin was always a very caring and thoughtful soul that will be missed by many people.
He is survived by his parents: Dan Zaharias (Judy Martin) and Kathy Zaharias (Jim Hammer), his wife Janet A. Zaharias; sons: Dar Leon Zaharias and Vincent Eiram Zaharias; siblings: Ted Krans (Melissa), Michael Krans, Susan Bland (Richard), Ben Zaharias (Jennifer), and Aaron Zaharias (Michelle); and many nieces and nephews.
We will miss your smile, laughter, and hugs but our memories will sustain us til’ we meet again.
Friends and family are welcome to gather on Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. A funeral service for Devin will be on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church, 12 C St E, Salt Lake City. He will be laid to rest following the service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
In Loving Memory
Words cannot express my sorrow as to your loss. Devin was an inspiration to our Cub Scouts and to others in our community. He had to biggest heart I have seen. I pray that God will give you all the strength to get through these tough times. Please let me know how our Scouting Family can help you and how we can honor his life. I still find it hard to believe, it happened so suddenly and way before your time. I hope you know how much your friendship has meant to me, I could always count on you. I am seriously going to miss your smile and definitely that wonderfully goofy laugh, when you laughed it made us all laugh also. Your loss will be felt for a long, long, time. Heaven has been given a gift with your arrival, but I wish it wasn't true. I love you Dev, thanks for letting me know you, I am a better person for it. Your friend always, Tasha XoXo

It was shocking news when I read the church bulletin this morning and thanks to technology I can share my condolences. I will miss seeing Devin at the Kirkin when I usually return to SLC. The Zaharias boys and my girls grew up at First Pres and Devin never failed to ask about them and greet me. May that hole in your hearts from his passing soon be filled with the wonderful memories he gave you.
