Diane Margaret Barratt Bruno
June 16, 1942 - June 30, 2021
Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on June 30, 2021 at home in Salt Lake City. She was born on June 16, 1942 in Salt Lake City to Preston James and Margaret Bergquist Barratt. She was raised and schooled there until her parents moved to American Fork, Utah when she was a sophomore in high school. She graduated from American Fork high school in 1960 and attended the University of Utah.
In 1963, Diane married Perry S. Bruno and they became the proud parents of two daughters Olga Bruno Siggins (Frank) and Amy Bruno Gezon (John). Diane was a loving and devoted mother to her daughters who made her proud with their successes and for raising good families of their own. She was also very close to and caring of her five grandchildren Ryan and Sam Littleton, Michael and Simon Siggins, and Sophie Gezon. Diane was thankful that her family lived close. Diane loved being involved in each grandchild’s life and went all out for special occasions and holidays, especially Christmas.
Diane also put a lot of effort into charitable organizations. She worked tirelessly for the Assistance League’s thrift shop, whose profits help needy children. She was on the Woman’s Board of Westminster College, which raises scholarship funds. Also, she was a member of the Neighborhood Garden Club, a women’s group focused on socials and a little bit of gardening. Diane had many friends, including wonderful neighbors on Sorenson Way and Sherwood Drive, because of her empathy for others, witty personality, and her commitment to always being honest.
She loved garage/yard sales and searching for antiques or home decorating items. Diane and Perry traveled a lot and saw most of the United States, some of Russia, Canada, Mexico and several European countries. Perry dragged Diane and the family to many race horse tracks and she enjoyed all of this.
Diane had many health issues towards the end of her life including over five years of dialysis. She remained upbeat, positive, and was thankful for her health providers, especially the staff at Fresenius, and the loving care provided by her husband.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters and their husbands, five grandchildren, sister Susan Barratt Smith, brother in-law Tyler Smith, brother Jack D. Barratt, Jack’s partner Kay Olson, sister in-law Jewel Bruno Bailey and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerry P. Barratt and sister in-law Kay Barratt, former sister in-law, Merilee Barratt, along with eight of Perry’s siblings and their spouses. Diane donated her body to the University of Utah’s School of Medicine for study and research. Her cremated remains will be returned to her family and will be placed next to the graves of her maternal grandparents in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Join the family in a Celebration of Diane’s Life on Saturday, July 31 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor located at 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Assistance League, 2090 East 3300 South, SLC, UT 84109 or Westminster College, Attn: Women’s Board, 1840 South 1300 East, SLC, Utah 84106.
