Dick Daniel Tyer
July 1, 1933 - February 13, 2008
Dick Tyer of West Jordan, Utah, peacefully passed away after a short battle with cancer in the early morning of February 13, 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born July 1, 1933 in Clarkston, Washington, Dick was the son of Lewis E. Tyer and Dollie Bonallie. He married Nellie Octavia Porayko in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on October 5, 1955.
He proudly served his country, enlisting for active duty in the U.S. Air Force, 1952-1962, followed by service in the Air Force Reserves. Dick was employed at Hill Field Air Force Base in Clearfield, Utah where he became an expert in many defense systems. After retirement he and his life-long companion moved to eastern Washington, where they owned and operated the Tyer Fishing Resort at Horseshoe Lake for a few summers. Dick enjoyed the west, spending much time fishing, exploring the deserts of Utah, and spending time in Mexico and south Texas.
Dick is survived by his wife Nellie, their two children Dan (Christine) Tyer and Ramona (Dan) Wheeler, his sister Betty Casteel, five grandchildren and six great-grand children. Viewing will be Friday, February 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Graveside services Saturday, February 16 at 11 a.m. in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
