Dixie L. Young
January 15, 1941 - December 22, 2019
Our beautiful and sassy mother and friend, Dixie Louise Young of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away suddenly of viral pneumonia December 22, 2019.
She was born to loving parents Ruth and William L. Clegg on January 15,1941 in Moberly, Missouri. Her parents moved shortly thereafter to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she was raised as an only child.She was a member of the first graduating class of Highland High School in Salt Lake City. Dixie went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Therapy from the University of Utah and later her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Utah State University. She taught with the Granite School District in Salt Lake for over 30 years and was loved by her students and coworkers.
Dixie is survived by her children Kristen Young and Patrick Young, grandson Fletcher Young and many lovely friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; by her first husband, Hank Taggart and her second husband, Richard W. Young.
Dixie enjoyed sewing, music, cooking and was a master entertainer with her parties and get-togethers. She was an amazing, generous and supportive mother, always there for her children and friends, quick with a smile, a hug and a laugh.
Friends are invited to gather for a celebration of Dixie’s life on Wednesday, January 15 (her birthday), 2020 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building. Dixie was so cheerful and engaging, with an exciting and embracing demeanor that provided a safe harbor for so many friends. She will be greatly missed. Sincere condolences to her family.
