D'Layne Elizabeth Atkinson
November 9, 2006 - September 26, 2018
“Our Heart Warrior”
Our angel D'Layne received her wings on September 26, 2018 from complications that ensued after a successful heart transplant.
She was born on November 9, 2006 in Sandy, Utah to Amy and Tory Atkinson. D'Layne attended American Heritage School of South Jordan where she spent the last three years creating a second family. She dutifully went to work with her mom from the time she was born and was her little helper and event planner. D'Layne loved to dance, sing and perform. The world was her stage. She found joy in making others smile and was always able to find the silver lining. She was a dedicated Girl Scout who had her own business cards and once sold 2800 boxes of cookies to buy her own iPad. She enjoyed baking, cooking and sewing. She loved her family passionately and was our Mother Hen. The simple things pleased her and she never thought of herself; she always chose what she thought others would want. She made a special connection with everyone she met. Through all of the trials of her heart disease she never complained and could even outrun us all.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother Austin (Sarah) Wade; sister Aniston; grandparents Randy and Geri Jeppson, Jim and Irene Lamont and Raeo, and Joanne Atkinson; special cousin Dr. Natalie Mackintosh who has always supported her; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved her dearly.
She is met in heaven by her Uncle Shane Lamont and her great-grandparents.
Our family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Primary Childrens Hospital, especially Dr. Shaji Menon and Dr. Dallen Ormond for the incredible care they have given her the last eight years. Words are not enough to express our gratitude.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made at any Mountain America Credit Union in the name of Our Heart Warrior, D'Layne.
Friends are invited to bring a memory and join D'Layne's party on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, UT. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking provided on the north side of the building.
In Loving Memory
I teach school with Traci Latimer (D'Layne's great aunt). I have been so touched by D'Layne's story. She was such a fighter and had great courage. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
