Don Matthew Warner

Don Matthew Warner passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 11, 2022 in the Riverton Hospital. He spent the last few months battling Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and Covid. He was born Jan 1, 1940 to Marion and Nyla Warner of Heyburn, Idaho. Don graduated from Burley High School in 1958 and married Launa Moyle in the Idaho Falls temple. They had a son, Gary Don Warner and later divorced.

Following high school, he served as a Corporal E4 in the Marines and earned both the Sharpshooter Badge and Good Conduct Medal. Don was honorably discharged in 1964 and married Barbra Harmison Mitchell on February 10, 1967 in Pocatello, Idaho. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on November 30, 1978. Together they had a daughter, Nicole Crystal Warner.

Don graduated from Idaho State University in Pocatello with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad as a Locomotive Engineer for several years. After a back injury, he began working in employee assistance for Union Pacific where he helped provide treatment and additional services to individuals with drug and alcohol addiction in Salt Lake City, Utah and Omaha, Nebraska. Don retired in 2002 and in 2007 he worked one year in the Wyoming oil fields for Hallaburton.

Don was known for his positive attitude and sense of humor. He spread happiness and positivity everywhere he went. He is most remembered for the phrase “I'm great and getting better!” Don’s love for his family was beyond unconditional. He always saw the good in everything and everyone. Don had many hobbies such as oil painting, word carving, fishing, and skiing. He also enjoyed traveling with his Wife, drinking Pepsi and loved watching the painter, Bob Ross.

He was very active in his faith and worked as a veil worker in the Jordan River Temple. He was a high councilman, taught boy scouts, Sunday school and was a high priest teacher.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Nicole Johnson, stepdaughter Jaclyn Dee Mitchell Kuhn and stepson Thomas Don Michell. He leaves behind his wife and son Gary Warner, brothers Derral and Ned Warner, sisters Loa Myers and Peggy Jardine, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchild children. He will be greatly missed and always remembered for the monumental impact he has left on the world.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11:00 am at the South Jordan 9th Ward, 9720 South 2200 West, South Jordan, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Don will be laid to rest following the funeral service at Elysian Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City.
