Donald Wellington

February 15, 1944 - June 3, 2025

Donald “Don” Wellington passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 81 years old. Don was born on February 15, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Richard and Kitty Wellington.

If you knew Don, you either loved him or deeply respected him. He was a man known for his honesty, tireless work ethic, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

Don graduated from Jordan High School, and went on to build a long and accomplished career with Kennecott Copper Mine, retiring after 39 years of service. He was the proud recipient of numerous safety awards throughout his time with the company. Even in retirement, Don wasn’t one to sit still. He continued working for another 14 years with Adroit, Home Depot, and Walmart. He would have kept going indefinitely—until his beloved wife finally told him, “You’re done working, it’s time to come home.”

In 1989, on a memorable St. Patrick’s night, Don met the love of his life, Dana Kay. That night marked the beginning of a beautiful 36-year marriage filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Don had a deep passion for collecting antiques and die-cast cars. He could tell you the make and model of any car in his collection, and his love for them became the go-to gift theme for every birthday, Father’s Day, and Christmas.

Don is survived by his devoted wife Dana Kay; his daughters Stephanie (Chuck), Brittany, and Kristina; grandchildren Kayden, Landon, Alexandria, Avery, Nicole, Robyn, and Josh; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kitty and Richard Wellington, and his brother Dickie.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate team at Rocky Mountain Hospice. We are especially grateful to Don’s nurse Mikayl and caregiver Martha for their tireless, loving care.

Please join us in honoring Don’s life at a celebration of life on Wednesday, June 18th, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor3651 South 900 East, Millcreek, Utah. Guests are encouraged to use the parking on the north side of the building.

Don will be remembered for the life he lived, the love he gave, and the legacy he leaves behind. He was truly one of a kind
