Doreen Jo Carey

March 12, 1958 - August 10, 2021

Doreen “Dori” Jo Carey passed away peacefully in her home on August 10th, 2021.

Dori was born to Jack and Peggy Carey on March 12th, 1958 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Jack and Peggy had just purchased their first home in the Temple View Area when Dori was born.

She attended grade school at Temple View Elementary. Middle school at Central Junior High and Clair E. Gale Junior High. She went to Skyline High school and graduated in 1976.

Dori was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. And was always involved in church activities. When Dori was a Junior and Senior, she participated in the school's Pep Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band and Choir. Her love and passion for music and performing started at a young age and really gave way to her future.

After Highschool, Dori attended Rick's College (BYU Idaho). She received an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. To further her education, she enrolled at BYU and moved to Provo, Utah. Dori graduated in 1981 with a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics Education.

Dori got her first Home Economics teaching job in Blackfoot, Idaho in 1981. In 1984, she found a new teaching job in Salt Lake City, Utah at Glendale Junior High. She continually worked on her own education and received her Masters Degree in Counseling. She then moved on to Highland High school in Salt Lake City as a Counselor for 18 years. She loved all of her kids, and they loved her.

Through those years, she made many life long friends. Dori enjoyed and participated in many musical endeavors. Including singing in Handels Messiah, duet performances with her dear friend Tim Goins and even recorded her own album with Vince Larkin.

In 2005, Dori met her husband and best friend, Jim Gibbons. Together they had a love for four-wheeling and the outdoors. They had West Highland Terriers that were like children to them. And they went everywhere together.

Dori was an amazing and dearly loved Daughter, Sister, Auntie and Friend. She always made time for her family and friends. She especially loved spending time and caring for her Mother. Her laugh and jovial attitude would brighten any room. And bring a smile to anyone near.

In Loving Memory

Sending condolences to the family. Ms. Carey as I knew her was my Jr. High Counselor at Glendale Middle School. She made a big impact on our community at our school and her presence was very important for us kids. She was super kind and loving and will never be forgotten. She knew how to be stern with us kids but you could feel her genuine love and care for us. Rest In heavenly love to this sweet woman.
