Dorothy Montoro Dempsey (Dottie)
February 4, 1935 - March 4, 2023
With the heaviest of hearts, we share the peaceful passing of Dorothy Montoro Dempsey (Dottie). With her beloved family by her side, Dorothy passed away the morning of March 4th, 2023.
Dorothy was born in Helper, Utah on February 4th, or 5th, 1935. The exact date of her birth is unclear, which has become her family’s excuse to celebrate her – twice! She spent much of her life in Salt Lake City alongside her sisters, whom she adored, while working tirelessly to raise and provide for her family. Dorothy owned and ran two businesses in downtown SLC: The Club and The Kozy Korner. As a business owner, her compassion for others and integrity was admired by all she encountered.
In her free time, Dorothy enjoyed teeing off at her favorite course, Rose Park, or could be found throwing strikes at the bowling alley. It was on the links and the lanes that she met many lifelong friends. Wanting to spend less time in the snow and more in the sun, Dorothy found a new home in Mesquite, Nevada: a place for year-round golf and increasing her odds of winning a jackpot! She accomplished both.
What she enjoyed most was the regular visits from friends and family. Dorothy was known for picking up the dinner tab, frequenting the Casablanca pool whilst supplying her grandchildren with endless Virgin Daiquiris (until they were old enough for the real thing), and of course hitting the casinos.
More than anything, Dorothy is remembered for the love she had for her family and dear friends. She was a constant source of guidance, generosity, and benevolence.
She leaves behind so many who deeply cherished her in return including her two children, Craig (Karen) and Janene (Scott), and their children/grandchildren: Lindsey (Henry), Ben, Grace, Mckelle (Wes), Annie, and Allison.
In honor of Dorothy and the wonderful life she led, put a dollar in the slot machine, play a round of golf, or cheer on the Utah Jazz.
Family and friends are warmly invited to a celebration of life to be held on Saturday March 18, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East. Guests are encouraged to use the parking and entrance on the north side of the building. Feel free to wear your favorite Jazz or golf attire!
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Dorothy’s favorite charity– St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
In Loving Memory
So sorry to hear of Dot's passing. We live in Mesquite and have known her since moving here in 1996. We both have had the pleasure of golfing with her and I had the honor of golfing with her in a tournament when Arnold Palmer came to Mesquite. That experience was very special. In addition, I (Luana) have had several visits with her at the casino. In addition, I have let the employees at the casino know of her passing as she connected with several of them. Sending our condolences and know that she is missed. Mike and Lu Juenger
