Dorothy Sargetis Smith

April 26, 1930 - February 24, 2016

Dorothy Sargetis Smith, 85, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at her home in Mesquite, Nevada.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  She was dearly loved and will be missed but never forgotten.
Dorothy was born on April 26, 1930 in Altonah, Utah to Greek immigrant parents Theros and Cleanthe (Maragoudakis) Sargetis.  She graduated from East High School in 1948.  She met her husband Raymond E. Smith, Jr. while they were both working in a bakery.  They fell in love and eloped to Elko, Nevada, where they married on October 24, 1949.  They were together until his death in 1997.  They had two children: Linda and Michael; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Dorothy worked for many years as the secretary for the Granite School District's Community and Adult Education Department.  She was named "Secretary of the Year" in 1976 and retired in 1996.  She was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church.
Dorothy had a warm, welcoming smile and developed many lifelong friendships.  She had a special relationship with her surviving sister, Mary S. Souvall, and enjoyed their daily talks.  Dorothy loved playing cards with family and friends.  Her favorite game was bridge, which she played for over 50 years.  She also loved her dogs, especially Trixie who stayed by her side until the end.
Dorothy leaves behind her daughter Linda Coletti (Louie) and son Michael Smith; grandchildren Tyler (Jamie) Carlisle, Bryce (Danielle) Carlisle, and Shantel Carlisle (Oscar); nine great-grandchildren; sister Mary S. Souvall (Sam); sister-in-law Diane Holbrook (Steve); brother-in-law Fred Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Irene Landures (Lefty), Goldie Floor (Andy), and Eva Soter (Sam), and brother John Sargetis.
A viewing will be held in her honor on Tuesday, March 1st from 6:00 until 8:00 PM with a prayer service (Triasagion) at 7:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S. 900 E., SLC.  The Funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 2nd at 11:00 AM at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, 5335 S. Highland Drive, Holladay, UT.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 E. 500 S., SLC.
A special thanks to Mesa View Hospice, Louie Coletti, and Carole Parker for their loving care.  May her Memory be Eternal.
