Dwight L. Barr Jr.
From Outhouses to Angry birds
Dad passed away October 17, 2011. He was born July 17, 1925 in Gibson City, Illinois to Frances and Dwight L. Barr Sr.
He served his country in the Army Air Corps. Dwight attended The Illinois Institute Of Technology in Chicago where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Rosemary Barr February 4, 1950. He worked for the International Harvester Co. as an engineer before being hired by Hercules Inc. where he worked on their rocket propulsion programs. After retirement he and Rosemary sold their home and traveled around the country for 6 years collecting data for genealogy research and discovering many treasures. After traveling around the country they settled down in Salt Lake City. He was a passionate reader and voraciously researched and collected memorabilia on Presidents Lincoln and Jefferson. He did extensive study in genealogy for his direct descendants and enjoyed helping others explore their family tree. Dwight loved growing vegetables in greenhouses, experimenting with natural elements to create methane gas and other ventures. He was an early adopter of all technology; he always had a project building electronic gadgets. He cherished keeping up with his family and held weekly Internet based calls for all who would join in the last several years of his life. His wife was the love of his life and her passing on December 16, 2007 left him deeply heartbroken.
He is survived by daughters Cheryl (Paul) Kostman, and Anita Sjoblom; sons Norman Barr and Kenny (Dorothy) Byes; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister Mary Frances Babel; brothers Jim Barr and David Barr; cousin Bill DeVore; treasured nieces and nephews; and many many dear friends.
A Celebration of Dwight’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 29th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.
As a tribute to our Dad, the family wishes you to spend time with your loved ones and donate to the charity of your choice.
In Loving Memory
I am sorry to hear about the passing of Dwight. He came a couple of times to our Open House at the Art Studio and I always enjoyed him and his conversation.

To the Family of Dwight L. Barr We are greatly saddened by the passing of Dwight. He was a co-worker and long time friend. When he joined Hercules at ABL, I think in the early sixties, I was asked by management to introduce Dwight to the facility (Machine Shop, Propellant Mfg., Test Range and others.) and key leaders there. I enjoyed the assignment; it was a grand start on our friendship. Regretfully, because of previously planned travel, we will be unable to share in the Celebration of Dwight's Life with you on Saturday. Dwight and his family will be in our thoughts and prayers as we visit my brother, also an ex-Herculite, who lives in Bel Air (Maryland) about one mile from ABL where Dwight began his Hercules career. Respectfully, Bernie and Mary Lou McKenzie
