E. Jay Steele

April 23, 1927 – February 23, 2013

E. Jay Steele, an angel on earth for 85 years, died peacefully in the loving embrace of members of his family on February 23, 2013.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Beverly Newman Steele, his brothers Kenneth and Richard, and sister, Beulah.  He is survived by his children, Dave (Ilene), Randy (Elise), Loralee (Dave) Curtis, six grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  A member of the “Greatest Generation,” Jay proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II.

Jay leaves a tremendous legacy of unfailing love and devotion.  Until the very end, what was important to him, and what he devoted his life to, was being in loving service to all those with whom he had contact.  With a sparkle in his eye, a sweet warm smile, and kind words and deeds, Jay cheerfully touched the lives of those around him.  Jay loved unconditionally, served unconditionally, and lived courageously with honor, dignity, and strength. A huge space will be felt in our lives and hearts for the loss of this kind and gentle man.  We are grateful to have lived to witness his example, be touched by the lives he touched, and to have had the honor and privilege to be loved by him.

Friends are invited to celebrate his life and love on Friday, March 1st, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.  A funeral service in tribute to our father will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 11:00 AM also at Starks Funeral Parlor, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.  Interment to follow at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City.

Our heartfelt gratitude for the loving care given from Mia, Edith and Ashley at Heritage Place; Niki and team at Inspiration Hospice; and Rebecca and Heidi at North Canyon.

In Loving Memory

My heart goes out to you all. Jay was a great man. My parents loved both your mom and your dad. I can still hear your dads kind voice in my head when I think of him. He truly made a difference in this world. I hope you all can feel his love as you go through this tough time. Pam

Dave, our collective hearts go out to your family. What a great Mom and Dad. I remember many good days hanging out at your place on the front lawn as a teen. Your parents were always so kind to us.Regret not being able to attend the Funeral for your Dad. Best of all wishes to you and your family. Give us a call when you and Ilene are in town. How about using Randall Cobb ala a Percy Harvin type of thing. run him out of the backfield or on some sets use him like N.O. does with Darren Sproles. He's exolpsive and needs to see the field more and with our recievers he's a 3 or 4 at best. It would get another big play weapon on the field.a0
