Edith M. Young
May 27, 1940 - February 17, 2017
Edith bravely cashed in her golden ticket on February 17, 2017 surrounded by those who love her most.
She was bon May 27, 1940 in Salt Lake City to Catherine F. and George H. Young. She graduated from South High School in 1958 and worked at the phone company for 40 years, retiring in the year 2000. For many years leading up to her mother's passing in 2007, Edith devoted her life to caring for her mother and their many pets. She traveled to all corners of the world throughout her life and experienced many things. Her favorite trip was with her sister to Plains, GA to see Jimmy Carter teach Sunday School. Edith loved to crochet, was an avid crossword puzzle fan, and never missed Ellen or Jeopardy. Do not call during Wheel or Jeopardy hour! She was a regular at Pioneer Theater and the Sundance Summer Theater for many years. Edith can make a lifelong friend in five minutes. She would get on a bus and by the time she got off she would have a trip planned somewhere with her new friend. She loved to the end.
She is survived by her siblings Evelyn Jimerson, Guy H. (Ethel) Young, Georgia (Lynn) Bright, Christy Young; dedicated, loving nieces Deborah and Denice; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Ethel Brown, Dorothy Young, Gene Young; beloved pets Daisy and Buster; lifelong friend Mary Pocock.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Please use complimentary valet parking provided on the north side of the building.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the animal charity of choice or the American Diabetes Association in Edith's name.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her friends Jolynn and Myrna, the staff at Highland Care and Valeo Hospice for making her last few years and days peaceful. Also to Carol Henderson of Next Level Athletics for adding not just quantity but quality to Edith's last years.

Edith was very special to me. She was my mom's dearest friend, and because of that, she spent many special times with my family. After my mom's passing, Edith made a point to stay in touch with my sister and I.This meant so much to us. She and Chris have supported and loved us for many years. We will miss you so much, Edith, but I know you've got a lot of catching up to do with my mom. Kiss her for us - we love you both.
