Edward Hantz

January 30, 1933 - September 11, 2024

Edward Hantz, 91, of Saratoga Springs, UT died 11 September 2024.

He was born January 30th, 1933, in Southampton, NY to Leo and Margaret (Murray) Hantz, and spent his childhood growing up in Amagansett, NY. 

Mr. Hantz attended Lafayette College in Easton, PA where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. Following graduation, he was called from reserve status and served his country in the US Army from October 1954 to October 1956, being honorably discharged at the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

He married the love of his life, Barbara Bergosh on August 6th, 1961, a marriage which lasted for 61 wonderful years. He loved spending time with his wife and 3 sons, especially in the Poconos.

Mr. Hantz had a long and distinguished career at Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Bethpage, NY, including engineering support on the Apollo Lunar Excursion Module Program.  He also completed the Program for Management Development from Harvard Business School in 1976. Later he spent 10 years working for the US Census Bureau, where he truly enjoyed interacting with people and hearing their stories.

Mr. Hantz had a passion for hunting (especially for upland game birds) and loved the time he spent with the best bird dogs Gomez and Brandy. He was a lifelong supporter of the New York Giants football team and was a longtime season ticket holder of the Utah Jazz. He was an avid poker player in his bachelor days, and later he loved to play video poker in Las Vegas (where he earned the nickname “Eddie Deuces”). Other hobbies included reading Louis Lamour westerns and listening to country music.

Mr. Hantz is survived by his 3 sons Timothy Hantz, Michael Hantz, Steven Hantz (Rachel); 3 grandchildren Jonathan Hantz, Graeme Hantz, Dean Hantz; and 1 great-grandchild, Ava Hantz.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara Hantz; father Leo Hantz; mother Margaret Hantz; and brothers E. Murray Hantz, Leo Hantz, and John (Jack) Hantz.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 18 at 1:00 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 300 East 11800 South, Draper. Mr. Hantz will be laid to rest following Mass at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy.
