Effie Davlantes
February 5, 1942 - August 8, 2024
In the early morning of August 8, 2024, our beloved and beautiful Effie passed on to our Lord.
Effie was born February 5th, 1942, in Ogden, Utah and attended Ogden High School where she was awarded best actress in the Utah State finals. She graduated from the University of Utah where she was member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Effie had a love and passion for the theatre, music and arts. After graduating she became a teacher at Granite High School in Salt Lake City and taught, Speech, Drama and English. Even though she enjoyed teaching, and her students adored her, she longed to travel and see the world. Effie moved to San Francisco, CA and started working for Olympic Airways, traveling throughout Europe, and then moved on to Qantas Airlines visiting Asia and Australia.
Effie moved to San Mateo, CA to assist in taking care of her mother, but was still active and became president of HAPS (Hellenic American Professional Society) and was a past member of PAOI (Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute) in Berkeley. She was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church. During this time, she met and married Dr. Stephen G. Miller, an archeologist in Greece. She spent the last 20 years living between Nemea, Greece and San Mateo, CA.
Effie was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Stephen G. Miller, her parents Katena (Vitogianes) Davlantes and Harry Davlantes, and her sister Helen Davlantes Benis.
She is survived by her siblings, George Davlantes and Mary Ann Davlantes, her niece Cathy Jaynes, and children Kayla and Tommy (godson), her nephew Chris Benis (Penny), and children Christopher, Alexander and Nicholas. She is also survived by her cousin Lambryne Wentley (Mark) and children Sophia, Zoe and Christina, and her godson Valerios Chournos.
Effie always had a beautiful smile, was kind, generous, and loving. She will be missed terribly and loved always.
Visitation will be held at 6 pm, with the Trisagnon at 7pm on Sunday, August 18th at the Church of the Holy Cross, 900 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont. The funeral is scheduled for Monday, August 19th at 11 am, also at the Church of the Holy Cross in Belmont.
A visitation will also be held on August 21st in Salt Lake City Utah, at Starks Funeral Parlor on 3651 South 900 East from 10 am to 11 am. The burial service will be held at 11:30 am at Mount Olivet Cemetery at 1342 East 500 South in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Remembrances may be made in Effie’s name to the Church of the Holy Cross, Belmont.
