Eleanor Catherine Goodman

December 5, 1926 - May 11, 2020

Eleanor C. Goodman was born December 5, 1926 in Waukegan, Illinois and died at the age of 93 from complications due to a fall at her home.  Preceded in death by her husband, Donald and her parents Julius John & Mary Magdalene, sisters Lucille, Bernice and brother Alphonse.

Survived by children Paul Haack, Celia Diver (Charles), Jeff Goodman (Pam) and Lori Tilley.  Grandchildren Steve Diver (Jan), Stephanie Mills (Skot), David Tilley, Evan Tilley (Michelle), Mitchell Goodman and Melissa Bailey (Zack) and many loved great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

Eleanor grew up in Waukegan, Illinois and graduated from Waukegan Township High School going on to work in civil service for the U.S. Navy.  Eleanor met the love of her life, Donald Goodman, in Illinois and they married on August 15, 1959.  Donald’s Naval career took them to San Diego where she devoted her love and energy to raising her two youngest children Jeff & Lori.  Eleanor & Donald eventually settled in Murray, Utah for their retirement years.

Our mom was a very intelligent, nurturing woman with a huge heart and a great sense of humor.  She had a very giving nature and never let anyone go without.  She was an amazing grandma as well.  She loved to babysit, play games with the grandkids and always tried to go to all of their school & sporting events.  Eleanor loved arts & crafts, gardening, baking (especially traditional Lithuanian foods), computer games and jigsaw puzzles.  She also loved holidays and birthdays and made them extra special with her loving touch.

We will miss our dear mother more than words can say and thank the Lord for blessing us with the most special mother in the world.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 13th from 4-5 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.  We ask that all guests wear masks and only 20 guests will be allowed at one time.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 4914 South 2200 West, Salt Lake City on Thursday, May 14th at 11 am.

Interment will be at Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Monday, May 18th.

In Loving Memory

My condolences on the loss of Eleanor. She was a beloved cousin from Illinois. I enjoyed my visits with Eleanor and Don while I was stationed in San Diego and Utah over the years. She will be truly missed.

Auntie El was my second mom as I was growing up. She and Cel and Paul (my surrogate brother and sister!) lived upstairs in our apartment/house. When one of us were in trouble, all 3 of us were in trouble. LOL I’ve been blessed to see her recently around Mother’s Day the past few years. So happy she made it through one more! Angels are dancing, I’m sure.
