Eliana Rosas Erickson passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the remarkable age of 95. She was born on November 8, 1930, in Osorno, Chile, the youngest of eight children.
Eliana lived a life filled with love, courage, family, and friendship. She worked as a secretary for the Geological Institute of Chile, where she met Max P. Erickson, a geologist from the United States. Their meeting began a beautiful chapter in her life. They married just three months later, and in 1977, Eliana and Max began their life together in the United States.
Max preceded Eliana in death. After his passing, Eliana was fortunate to find companionship and love again with Art Scott, who became her beloved boyfriend and companion. Art remained by her side for many years until his passing two years ago. Their relationship brought Eliana happiness, companionship, and many cherished memories during an important chapter of her life.
One of Eliana’s greatest joys was being able to bring her children to the United States so that their family could be together. Two years later, her children followed, beginning a new chapter for the family and allowing Eliana to build the loving home and community that meant so much to her.
Eliana had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome and loved. Throughout her years in the United States, she built a beautiful community of family and friends—many of whom she loved as though they were her own family, and who returned that love wholeheartedly. Her kindness, warmth, generosity, and love for others touched countless lives.
Among those who held a very special place in Eliana’s heart were her close family friends, Lorraine Story and Liqin Peterson. Their friendship and love for Eliana were truly special. Lorraine and Liqin were by Eliana’s side through her final days, surrounding her with care, comfort, and the love of family. Their presence was a beautiful reflection of the deep bonds Eliana created throughout her life.
Eliana is survived by her son, Ivan Urzua; her grandchildren, Daniela Jex, Erik Jex, Diego Urzua, Jaimie Urzua, and Gabriel Urzua; and her great-grandchildren, Matthew Jex, Michael Jex, and Rene Urzua.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Sandra Urzua and Sandra’s ex-husband and best friend, Kelvin Peterson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Max P. Erickson, and her longtime companion, Art Scott.
Eliana’s 95 years were a testament to the strength of family, the courage to begin anew, and the beautiful connections we make throughout our lives. She carried the love of Chile in her heart while creating a lasting home and family in the United States.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known and loved her. Her memory will live on through the generations she leaves behind and through the many lives she touched with her love.
Rest peacefully, Eliana. Your life was a beautiful gift to all of us who had the privilege of loving you.
