Elizabeth Ann Jones Hamilton passed away peacefully at home on Sunday April 12, 2026. She was the oldest of five children born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marvin and Viola Jones February 9th, 1945. Although she loved her three brothers very much, at age eleven she was excited finally to have a sister, with whom she had a life-long special bond.
Growing up in Holladay, Utah, Elizabeth graduated from Olympus High School in 1963. She went on to the University of Utah where she completed her BA in Education in 1967. Following in her father’s footsteps, her passion led her to teach for 38 years at Oakwood Elementary School where she taught grades 3rd through 6th.
In 1967 she married her true love, Colin Kelly Hamilton. When tragedy struck in 1969 and they lost their first-born child, they clung to each other and never let go. They endured many ups and downs, but their love and enduring bonds were constants that lasted for 59 years until her death. No matter the difficulty, they were always there for each other.
Perhaps the only thing Elizabeth loved more than teaching was family. She raised four children while also acting as pseudo mom to nephews, nieces, neighbors, and children’s friends. She had a lot of love to share, which she always did – usually coupled with a good joke. You could always find her at special events, birthday parties, sporting events, or anywhere else where she could celebrate her friends and family.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 59 years, Colin Kelly Hamilton, three siblings, David Jones (Sherri), Steven Jones (Tommi), and Suzan Jones (Woods), four children, Jenifer Hamilton, Danial Hamilton, Carin Hardman (Dylan), Crystal Ince (Corby), ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter KelliAnn, brother Rodney Jones, and nephew Greg Jones.
Elizabeth’s life was defined by her generosity, creativity, and deep love for family, friends, and community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and devotion that will continue to live on in all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life for Colin and Elizabeth will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East. Guests are encouraged to use the parking and entrance on the north side of the building.
