Ellen Marie Paul

June 23, 1928 - October 26, 2021

Ellen Marie (Guhl) Paul, aged 93, went to be with the Lord on October 26, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Born on June 23, 1928 in Haven, Kansas, Ellen grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing.  She and her husband, Jim, lived in Wilmington, Delaware until retirement and then in Broadkill Beach, Delaware.

Ellen loved taking care of others.  As a registered nurse, bedside nursing brought her joy.  She had a heart for helping the less fortunate, using food as her means of ministry.  She started numerous food pantries in Delaware during her life, as well as providing home cooked meals for those in need or following tragedies, food baskets to the poor on holidays, and baked goods for veterans in the VA hospital.

She was a founding member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newark, Delaware and later was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.   Ellen was always very active in the church.  She served as organist, on the altar guild, taught Sunday school, was Social Ministries chairman, and worked on numerous outreach projects for the homeless and needy.

Ellen was also a Girl Scout leader, a member of the League of Women’s Voters, volunteered with Luther Tower aids, and worked on the Suicide Prevention Hotline.

Alzheimer’s disease did not stop her caring ways.  She made an impact on those she came in contact with through her loving ways, kind words and sense of humor.

Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Jim. She is survived by sister Doris Claybourn of Palm Coast, Florida; brother Bill Guhl of Oxford, Pennsylvania; daughter Judy Paul Wachter (Steve) of Exton, Pennsylvania; son J. Richard Paul (Sharon) of Middletown, Delaware; daughter Diane Spurgeon (Bill) of Park City, Utah; granddaughter Amanda Korzeniowski (Adam) of Park City, Utah; grandson Captain Trey Spurgeon (Anna) of Fort Polk, Louisiana; and great granddaughter Aspen Korzeniowski.

A Celebration of Ellen's life will be on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11:00 am at Mountain Life Church, 7375 Silver Creek Rd, Park City, Utah.

In Loving Memory

My heart felt sympathy is with your family at this time. Ellen was a wonderful lady. I really enjoyed my time with her. And getting to know your family. Unfortunately I don't believe I will be able to attend the service. I recently recovered from covid. And Sat. Is first day back to work. I wish I could. She touched me deeply in the short time I was able to spend with her.  I have kept her and your families in my prayers.  Much love and Respect Always  Edith Velasquez-Renner 801-634-7747
