Ellen Vlasic

November 4, 1936 - July 5, 2024

Ellen Vlasic left this world on July 5, 2024 surrounded by her children. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 4, 1936 to Fay Goodfellow Hogge and Jesse Norman Hogge, and raised by her fraternal grandparents. Ellen met Wallace (Wally) Vlasic as a bright teenager, and they were married after graduating from South High School in 1955. She was a proud and loving mother to sons Gary and Mark and daughter Valerie, and an adoring grandmother. Nothing made Ellen feel happier or more complete than being with her family.

Ellen spent most of her life in the Salt Lake Valley, and even though she enjoyed exploring the world, she was happiest close to home. She was an avid gardener, spending long mornings tending her colorful blooms together with Wally. A deep sense of spiritual wonder permeated her life, highlighted by a decades-long ministry with the Inner Light Center, which she co-founded in 1990. The close relationships she nurtured as part of her spiritual quest were fundamental to who she was and her perception of the universe.

Ellen is survived by her husband Wally Vlasic; children Gary, Mark (Margareta) and Valerie Vlasic; and grandchildren Kajsa and Siri Vlasic, Tristen Blanford, Skye Watts, Emily and Lauren Johnson. She is preceded in death by her dear brother Norman Terry Hogge.

A celebration of Ellen’s life will be on Tuesday, July 30th from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance located on the north side of the building. Guests are invited to enjoy the company of friends old and new and reflect on a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ellen’s name to Red Butte Garden or Canyon Home Care & Hospice, which provided exceptional, loving care.

Dear Ellen has been a blessing in my life since I met her when I was about age 21. She was my teacher, my spiritual guide, my friend, and my Mother-in-law, but more like a Mother to me.  I loved her more than words can say and her family is beloved to me.  Precious was the time we spent together, as others clamored for counseling sessions with her even before she became an Ordained Minister.  Full of love and light was her genuine heart, which she generously and sincerely shared, and compassion came easily as she fully trusted in God's ever present spirit and wisdom in all ways. I like thinking of Ellen with a sense of ease and grace, capable of laughing at and with life, and laughing for others as she lovingly and sincerely pours lemonade for those she engages at her table, serving freshly baked cookies right out of the oven, eyes sparkling, heart open.  I know she will be lovingly guided on her spiritual journey with peace, love, gratitude, ease and grace. Condolences to all the Vlasics, friends, and spiritual family, as I know her love will be missed. A precious life who loved her family so much, helped so many, and I am ever grateful to have connected in love with her.

Dear Wally and family,  I was saddened to hear of Ellen's passing.  Whenever we visited the Remingtons we always tried to visit with Ellen.  She was such a calm, kind and sweet person.  She will be missed in the spiritual community that she helped to establish.  At Lowell's funeral she gave me a crystal which I still have and am reminded of her.  I send all of you much peace and love at this time of sadness and loss. I met Ellen and she created a safe space for me to learn more about myself through her beautifully unique ability to 'guide' me. She helped me on my path. I am honored to have known her. I love the Vlasic clan.   Much love. ❌⭕️ Erin
