Ernest Michael Fedor

Holladay, Utah – Ernest Michael Fedor, husband, brother, father and grandfather, passed away early in the morning on September 30, 2025 in Holladay, Utah, at the age of 84. Ernest, or Ernie as he was known to his friends and loved ones, was born in Kemmerer, Wyoming, to George Fedor and Jessie Dobnik. The second of four children, Ernie is survived by his brothers George and Gary, his sister Nancy (Caulfield), his wife, Diann, as well as his son Damon and daughter-in-law, Brenda, and their three sons, Samuel, Dominic, and Daniel. 

Upon moving to Salt Lake City with his family, Ernie attended the Cathedral School and later Judge Memorial Catholic High School, from which he graduated in 1959. During his high school summers, he would work on a Wyoming ranch to pay the yearly $300 tuition fee. Nurturing his love for hard work and the great outdoors, he earned enough cowboy wisdom to last a lifetime. After graduation from high school, Ernie traveled the Mountain West and apprenticed as a carpenter. He joined the Army from 1962-63, and remained in an Army Reserve construction battalion until 1969. Ernie returned to Utah to start his own construction company, Fedor Construction, and built hundreds of homes in the Salt Lake Valley over the next five decades. 

He married Diann Weyland, the love of his life, in 1967, and together they had one son, Damon. Ernie was a devoted husband and dedicated father. Besides raising a son, Ernie was involved in the upbringing of his nieces and nephews, and the Fedor household was central to the vibrant neighborhood he helped to build. Fedor Construction was instrumental in developing parts of Holladay, and he would remain in the house he built for his family on King’s Row Drive until his passing. Ernie was a lifetime family man; a devoted father and grandfather, instrumental in the upbringing of his three grandsons. Ernie was also an exceptional storyteller and an ardent reader, and his love of literature lives on in his surviving family. 

Ernie was an avid outdoorsman, hiking and fishing in Wyoming with his father as a boy. He enjoyed sports, particularly football which he played at Judge Memorial, and he would go on to volunteer with little league football for Judge as well. Later in life he turned to cycling and weightlifting, maintaining his physical fitness well into his later years. He was a talented craftsman, and the homes he built earned him a reputation for exceptional attention to detail. No job was too big or too small, and he built many highly customized homes all across the valley. He passed on his appreciation for craftsmanship to his son and grandsons, always reminding them to give nothing but their best to whatever it was they did. He was also an exceptionally gifted artist, painting and drawing both professionally and as a hobby. He would tell his grandsons, whenever they parted, to ‘do good.’ In lieu of flowers, the Fedor family invites donations to the Sierra Club to be made in Ernie’s memory. A private celebration of life will be held later in October.
