Esther Grace Nesi

1928 – 2014

“To Love many, trust few, and ALWAYS paddle your own canoe”. Were the words proclaimed and practiced throughout the life of Esther Nesi. Esther passed away peacefully on September 18th surrounded by her loving family. Esther Grace Nesi took the hand of her childhood sweetheart Kelly Carl to resume their journey together.

Esther was born February 7th, 1928 to Joseph and Frances Pietramala.  She graduated from West High where she sang in the school choir.  Esther had a beautiful soprano voice and shared her talents with her family and fellow parishioners at St. Ann Catholic Church.  Esther married Kelly Nesi on August 7th, 1948.  They had been friends since they were babies and even rode in the same baby carriage. Esther was always a tomboy and loved beating the boys at marbles.  She always thought Kelly married her just to get his marbles back but he assured her he had lost his marbles a long time ago. Esther always joked about how Kelly proposed to her.  She was standing on a ladder with a paintbrush in her hand, a paint rag on her head and was painting the house. He said she was a nice girl so let's get married. They built a life of riches together with four beautiful children.

She is survived by Joseph Nesi  (Linda), Cherylann Miller, Judy Cochran (Jim), Kelly Jean Eldridge (Daniel); 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Edith (Charles) Dover; and brother Mike (Barbara) Pietrmala; as well as several nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her husband Kelly; parents; sisters Mary and Margarite; brother Jim; and granddaughter Sarah Jo.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Welcome Home Assisted Living. They always treated her with the utmost respect and dignity.

The viewing will be Monday the 22nd of September from 6-8 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday the 23rd of September at 11:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 1800 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful.  Interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Ave. “N” Street, Salt Lake City.

I saw Esther's obituary in the Deseret News today, and our family sends our condolences to Esther's family. Esther's family were so gracious at the time of my brother (Clarence) and his wife (Florence Burns Coleman). I especially appreciated it -- because I've felt a kinship to Esther through the years. She was so kind and thoughtful -- such a good friend to Florence all these years. I found some pictures in Florence's things for Cherylann if she will get my email address from Starks Funeral Parlor Office and contact me by email I will mail the pictures to her. May the Lord bless your family at this hard time. Best wishes, The Coleman Family: (Larry; Leda; Ron; Ardell, and Veldon)
