Eunice Hawker Young passed away on her birthday in Sandy, Utah on Oct 23rd, 2014 after a valiant battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully with family by her side.
Born Oct 23rd, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Eunice called various locations home during her life. During the Second World War, she lived in the Salt Lake area and enjoyed fishing with her Daddy for dinner on Millcreek. In her youth, her family moved frequently between Utah, Idaho and California, where she called Yermo Mountain, “her mountain.” In her teenage years she lived in the Burley Idaho area where she met her sweetheart, Frank Elmer Young. They were married Feb 11th, 1950 in Declo, Idaho, and later were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple June 1957. After their marriage, they moved to California, where they spent the majority of their married life.
Eunice was an avid genealogist and gardener who found great joy in both of these lifelong pursuits. Genealogy and family history was her passion. She enjoyed inviting her posterity for Sunday dinners to foster family relationships.
Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, her parents Rosalie Ross Hawker, and Charles Palmer Hawker, and brothers Charles “Junior” Hawker, Carroll Ross Hawker, and Calvin Ray Hawker. She is survived by her brothers Fred Hawker of Burley, Idaho, Richard Aaron Hawker of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and Sherman Ross Hawker of Galt, California.
Eunice is also survived by her daughter Sheila Kay Christensen of San Marcos, California, son David E. Young and wife Rae Lou currently serving as LDS Mission President in Vitoria, Brazil, son James Allen Young and wife Shannon Young of Mapleton, Utah, daughter Diana Stephens and husband Daniel Stephens of Syracuse, Utah, son Bradford Young and wife Heather of Mapleton, Utah, and daughter Kathy Young Swift and husband David Swift from East Mill Creek, Utah.
Eunice was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind 6 children, 30 grandchildren, and 55 Great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be Sunday Oct 26, 2014 from 6:30-8:30p at Stark Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Additional viewing will be held Monday Oct 27, 2014 from 9:45-10:45a with the funeral to follow from 11:00a-12:15p at Stark Funeral Parlor. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.
