Flora Bautista Pansoy
August 17, 1933 - February 12, 2022
Flora Nigos Bautista Pansoy was born on August 17, 1933 in Sucoc Sur, Luna, La Union in the Philippines to Timotea Reyes and Lorenzo Nigos. She married Angel Castillo Bautista in 1966 and they moved to Stockton, California later that year. She had 2 children: Jane in 1967 and Arlene in 1973. Flora passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on February 12, 2022 at the age of 88 in Colorado. She is survived by her children Jane (Jerry) and Arlene (Micheal); her grandchildren Hayley, Corbin, James, Kyle, and Justin; her honorary children Vincent (Chalen), Cheryll (Dan), and Beth; and her nieces, Lilia (Ric), Eleonor, and Cricel (Souli). Flora is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sisters Cristituta Nigos Navalta and Dionisia Nigos.
Flora grew up in the Philippines and obtained a primary level education. She dropped out of school to help her family manage their grocery store and rice farmlands. She survived attacks of World War II on the Philippines hiding in the forest and protecting her sister. During her adult life in the Philippines, she worked as a seamstress. Once moving to Stockton, she worked as a seamstress, then as a housekeeper at Dameron Hospital for over 20 years retiring in 1998. She became a United States Citizen in 1971. Flora lived in Stockton until 2006, when she moved to Utah and Colorado, and spent time living between Jane and Arlene.
Flora touched so many lives during her 88 years. Anyone who met her felt welcomed and instantly loved her spirit. She was outspoken, opinionated, and direct. She loved watching sports and could be heard throughout the house cheering on her favorite teams. She was also a fan of the Filipino Channel and watched the novellas (soap operas) daily. She especially loved her cats Ari and Kinney. She loved having family gatherings and cooking Filipino food, fried chicken, desserts, and having cocktails with everyone. She called her relatives often and would spend hours on the phone with Auntie Sally, Auntie Sion, and Auntie Clarita.
The family would like to thank the staff at the University of Colorado Anschutz Hospital and The Denver Hospice for the excellent care she received at the end of her life. Thank you to Dr. Matthew Johnson, Dr. Tahir Zaman and the IMC Home Dialysis Nurses for all the loving care you gave Mom. Thank you Chris Taylor for taking care of our mom when we were out of town and Auntie Sion for being her companion during her final months.
