Floyd Dee Baird

June 23, 1951 - March 17, 2018

Floyd "Dee" Baird passed away peacefully on Saturday March 17, 2018, at the age of 66, at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his dogs, wife and family, and after years of battling Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).

Dee is survived by his wife Colleen Dahl Reber Baird; children Brant Dee (Gina) Baird, Kolby Scott Reber, and Karl Don Baird; grandchildren Ellie Morgan Baird & Braden Dee Baird; brothers Don Wallace "Wally" (Susie) Baird & Michael (Annie) Baird; sisters Margaret (Mike) Tomany, Mary Beth (Kevin) Pollock, Kami (Aaron) Brand; his 3 best friends and his faithful 4-legged companion Kolt. He is preceded in death by his father Don J. Baird; mother Beth Wallace Sherrett; and father in-law George B. Dahl.

"If you are reading this then I am a goner. Born on June 23, 1951, to Don J and Beth Wallace (later divorced) in Brigham City, Utah. Growing up was easy with bikes, camping, fishing, horses, and motorcycles. It never stopped. My brothers, friends and I graduated from Box Elder High School. I married Nancy Perry (later divorced) and went to work. I earned my Masters Electrician License and worked new construction for 20 years while owning my own business, with partner, Don Peck. I then moved on to Boeing for the better part of 27 years, and I loved it. We work hard and played harder. In 1979, I met Colleen Dahl Reber at an Animal House Party, and on March 7, 1985, she became Mrs. Baird, and she became the love of my life. I have three sons, mine, hers and ours. I enjoyed boating, camping, fishing, hiking and hunting. I loved doing it with family and good friends, including: boating with the in-laws Barney and Deb, camping at Pine Cliff, hunting and fishing with the boys, weekly hikes with Ken and my dog Cyrus. Most of all I liked being in love with Colleen and doing my best to raise my sons. I love you all dearly, all of you."

Dee was an extraordinary man who lived life to the fullest while making a positive impact on all those he came across. He loved with all his heart and in return was loved by so many. If Dee couldn't fix it, then it couldn't be fixed.

Some of Dee's greatest memories include The Hook Willey, an annual guys only fishing trip down The Green River during Mother's Day weekend. Dee was an avid Fly Fisherman waking up early to catch the first fish of the day. Other great memories include Lake Powell, Starvation Reservoir, going on long mountain drives with a truck full of family & friends, sitting around the campfire telling stories, and raising to many dogs to name. Dee was an avid U of U sports fan, "GO UTES!" In his younger days Dee loved to go bowling, and was in a few different leagues, and also loved snow skiing at Snowbasin with his family.

Colleen & family would like to thank Dr. Amrapali Shah, MD, whose compassion and sincere caring made Dee feel more at peace when he would leave her office; to CNS Hospice, especially Marina, who he looked forward to seeing every Monday and Friday; his friends or "other family" at Boeing, that remained in contact with him, before and after he had retired; The Chapel Motorcycle Shop, & their friends/customers that helped give him a purpose and always treated him with respect; Doug Stone for being a great neighbor; Liz Guyre for being who you are; and last but not least, Robin Nielsen & Paula Behrend, for being great and being behind the scenes with love and concern for our family.

You will be missed by all, ML&R.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building.

Dear Coleen and Sons, my deepest sympathy to you and the Baird family. I didn't hang out with Dee away from work, but considered him a good friend. I had the pleasure of meeting Dee on what was probably the first day he stepped in to McDonnell Douglas because I had the honor to be on the panel that interviewed Dee for the position he had for all these yrs. He was always free with his advice and expertice on anything.I haven't met his boys yet but I know how proud he was of his sons and telling me about what they were up to whenever I asked. Even seeing him with his struggles these last few years, I never heard him complain. It meant a lot to me that he Invited me to his service award celebration of his last day here at Boeing. The good ones go too soon! RIP Dee Man!
