Francis A. “Bud” Crowley
On May 18, 2012, we lost a wonderful Irishman. Bud, the first child of Josephine Christman and Joseph Crowley, was born on January 19, 1925, in Butte, Montana.
Dad had a wonderful life in Butte and his heart never left there. He was a fun loving man with a twinkle in his eye who could tell endless jokes and sing Irish songs. He attended school in Butte, then enlisted in the Marines, and served in the Pacific during World War II.
Returning to Butte, he worked as a miner in the copper mines for several years before he became a lineman for the Pacific and Mountain States Telephone Companies and later for the Montana Power Company.
Dad had found the career he really loved. Serving 7 years as Business Manager for Local Union #44 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.), in Butte Montana. He was very proud that he was elected to most of the offices in Local Union #65 and Local Union #44. In 1972 he become Director of Mountain States Line Constructors Apprenticeship & Training Program in Salt Lake City, until his retirement.
Dad enjoyed golf, hunting and gardening.
In 1947, he married Alyce Donovan in Butte, Montana. From this loving union came their three much loved daughters, Terry (Neil) Stack, Kathy Hamby, Maureen (Doug) Woodley.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alyce; and his sister Betty Patrick.
He is survived by his daughters and grandchildren Ryan (Leah) Stack, Tyler Stack, Carson and Cullen Woodley, Melissa West; great grandchildren Aiden and Lola Stack; his brother and sister-in-law Joe “Dods” and Peggy Crowley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, May 26, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 East Creek Road, Sandy, Utah. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m also on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Thomas More Building Fund, Salt Lake Food Bank, or the Moran Eye Center for Macular Degeneration at the University of Utah.
