Frank H. Nakashima
October 2, 1925 - January 24, 2018
Frank H. Nakashima – loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend – passed away peacefully at his home in Salt Lake City on January 24, 2018. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on October 2, 1925 to Tamaye and Nakanosuke Nakashima. After graduating high school in Poston Arizona, he moved to Chicago with his father and sister (May) where he began his career in business management and, in 1948, married Helen Shiba. In 1962, Frank and Helen moved to Salt Lake City with their three children where he held a number of management positions before buying Custom Doors, Inc. in 1974, which he grew into Naka Industries, a general construction enterprise. Those who knew Frank will always remember his generous nature, engaging personality, boisterous laugh, and his many stories that highlighted his zest for life. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many memorable fishing trips to Alaska and Mexico. He also enjoyed hunting, bowling, golfing, and traveling with his late wife Helen.
Frank is survived by his children Bruce (Christie North), Julie (Mark) Mele, Brian; granddaughter Lizzy; sister May Imaoka; and many others dear to him – in-laws, nieces and nephews, long-time friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, grandson JT, and sisters Kazuko and Chizuko.
A celebration of Frank's life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building.
