July 20, 1934 - April 17, 2009

Fred Krakow

“Freddie Fish”

Loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and big-son-of-a-gun went to his final rest on April 17th, 2009 at 11:00 PM.  Born a fighter on a stifling night July 20th, 1934 in Chicago, IL. to Fannie and Abe Krakow.

He was lovingly raised by his Auntie Annie and carried on the legacy of the well known Chicago Krakow Fish Selling Family of Maxwell Street.  He married Helen Dworzynski on February 9th, 1969 in Chicago.  He loved watching old movies in his hobby shop and had a taste for a good corned beef sandwich. In his healthier years he liked to travel and enjoyed dancing.  He was the kindest tough guy anyone ever knew.  He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Helen; daughters Laurie (Bob) Krakow-Kaufman, Amy (Jeff) Richardson, Gabrielle Krakow; grandchildren Annie (9) and Philip (6) Kaufman, Joseph (7) and John Matthew (5) Richardson; brother Billy; sister-in-law Helen; and rottweiler Molly.

Preceded in death by his parents; brother Sol; and sister Jeannie.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 26th at 2:00 PM at Salt Lake Center for Spiritual Living, 870 E. North Union Ave., Midvale, UT.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made after May 1st to the Freddie Krakow Memorial foundation at any Wells Fargo Bank.

In Loving Memory

We are so sorry to know of Freddie's passing. I wish I had the words to comfort you in these sad moments, but know that our hearts, the hearts of your friends and family are with you. My memories of Freddie are fond. Remembering visits to the house and the fish store and all the interactions that took place. Again, my best to you and the rest of the family. Warm regards, Michael

I loved cousin Freddie. I was a boy who worked on Maxwell Street with him and my cousin Billy, selling fried fish sanwhiches. We told people they were baby white fish, but they were really herring. Please accept my warmest condolescenes and memories.
