Our loving father and grandpa, Gabor Szemerey, 81 of Salt Lake City, Utah passed from our midst on January 10, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. He suffered for many years and is now free.
Dad was born on May 10, 1926 in Satu Mare Hungary to Istvan and Irma Szemerey. He entered military school at the age of four and as a young man fought with the Hungarian Air Force to defend his country. He came to America where he became a proud citizen of the United States and joined the US Air Force. Dad made his way to Salt Lake City, where he met and married his beloved wife of 48 years. They were married on April 25, 1959. Dad worked for SLC Water Works as a supervisor for many years, then worked for the diocese and Mr. Sam Skaggs until he retired. He then started his favorite job as a crossing guard. He was a faithful member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, leaving as a fourth degree Knight. Dad loved God and his Roman Catholic faith, wife and family. He loved fishing, gambling, and enjoyed family gatherings and parties and he loved his television. Dad was a quiet man and never complained. We will miss you Dad!
