Gary L. Green

December 31, 1956 - May 20, 2015

Gary L. Green, loving husband and devoted father, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2015, surrounded by his family and friends. He will be remembered by those who knew him for his compassion, work ethic, strength, and humor.

Gary was born December 31, 1956 in Murray, Utah to Clayton and Sharon Green. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1975. He joined the Utah Carpenters' and Cement Masons 184 in 1980, beginning what would become a 33-year career in union carpentry.

Gary married his high school sweetheart, Tracy Hunsaker, on April 28, 1978. Together they moved to Washington State in 1988, settling in Bellevue in 1989. His family was always his top priority, and his greatest pride was raising his children, Cale, Andrew, and Mary Elizabeth. He spent countless hours supporting them in all their endeavors, always with a camera at his side. He greatly enjoyed coaching, officiating, and assisting in youth athletics, including PONY baseball, USA Track and Field, Bellevue Boys and Girls Club, and Cascade Striders Youth Running Club.

Gary was a tireless advocate for labor rights and social justice, always willing to speak up for those not spoken for. He represented L.A.D.S. Local 1144 as a national delegate at the United Brotherhood of Carpenters' 40th General Convention, also serving as a trustee and as a member of negotiation and scholarship committees for his union. He would finish his career as an instructor for L.A.D.S., training and mentoring apprentice carpenters, retiring in August 2013.

Gary was an avid outdoorsman, and a supporter of conservation. He enjoyed exploring the Pacific Northwest, taking great pleasure in its natural beauty. He was also a lover of music, a love which he would share with his children.

Gary is preceded in death by his sister Cheryl. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Tracy; parents Sharon and Clayton; children Cale, Andrew, and Mary Elizabeth; sisters Stephanie (Mark) and Rochelle; brother Kyle (Debbie); nieces Lindsey and Emily; and nephews Joel, Stewart, Daniel and Thomas.

A Celebration of his Life will be held Friday, June 12th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.
