Gayle Martin Coray

We Will Miss Her Laugh

1928 -2012

Marion Gayle Martin Coray peacefully reunited with her husband on his birthday, March 24, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 84.  Gayle was born on February 24, 1928 in Boise, ID to Alice Georgia Cosgrove Martin and William Austin Martin.  She later moved to SLC and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Home Economics.  While at the University she met and married R. Que Coray on June 4, 1948.  Gayle and Que were inseparable and each other's perfect complement for 64 years.

Gayle was a gentle mother yet a determined competitor.  She loved to play softball, tennis, golf, and bridge.  A loss meant more lessons, study, and practice.  Gayle cared more about improving than actually winning.  Later in life she participated in Tai Chi and bowled a 226 on her 72nd birthday.  Gayle faced the trials of Alzheimer’s with grace and humor.  We will miss our beloved mother and grandmother.

Gayle loved belonging.  She spoke often about sewing and cross stitching with her best friend and sister-in-law Katie in the Snappy Needle Club.  She joined 4-H, Job’s Daughters, and the League of Women Voters.  The friends Gayle made at The Cottonwood Club evolved into “The Committee,” a group that met often for lunch and laughter.

Gayle is survived by her children Marion (Greg) Johnson, Rual (Anne), John, and Bryan (Camellia); her grandchildren Nathan, Rory, Matthew, Benjamin, Timothy, Jennifer, Amber, Chad, Clay, Reuben, Miriam, Christopher, Joshua, Abigail; and 12 great-grandchildren.  Gayle is predeceased by her husband Que; daughter Claudia; and brothers Jack, William, and Robert Martin.

We are indebted to the caregivers at The Wellington, Sunrise Senior Living, Haven Home Health, and the Veterans Administration Nursing Home for their loving support of Gayle and Que.  Barbara, David, Sister Julie, Sonnie, and Mavell at Good Shepherd Hospice have a special place in our hearts.  Thank you all.

A celebration of Gayle’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 29, at 12:00 p.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City.

In Loving Memory

I just heard that Gayle passed away on Saturday and that Que had passed away last month. I'm so sorry. I used to go visit them every few months, but I hadn't seen them in a while. I don't take the newspaper anymore...I'm so glad you called us. Please let me know if I can help in any way. They were such good people, and sweet neighbors. I'll miss them.. and their dry wit, they always made me laugh. Xo Peg

I see your point about casting an uwnnokn as Gwen Stacy or whatever romantic lead they decide to go with. If they casted someone with a name or well known, they might overshadow Andrew Garfield who is relatively uwnnokn (perhaps after The Social Network he'll be more popular?). Most of my Spider-Man comic book reading has involved Peter Parker and Mary Jane, however Gwen Stacy was supposed to be Parker's college sweetheart and therefore if this reboot is his younger days, perhaps it should be her or someone new. Originally Peter Parker doesn't meet Mary Jane until after Gwen. Dennis
