Gene M. Krogh

August 30, 1934 - July 10, 2017

Gene Krogh left this earth quietly and on his own terms on July 10, 2017.  He passed peacefully on the 11th hole at Mountain Dell Golf course in Salt Lake City, in the company of his two good friends Pat King and David Cooper.  He was born on August 30, 1934 to Leo and Della Krogh in St. Paul Minnesota.

Gene lived a good and honest life.  He was a true friend, a loving and supportive husband to his wife June, and a fun and devoted father to his three daughters Susan, Nancy, and Diane.  Those who knew him loved him.  Gene had a way of making those in his company feel important and valued.  He was gentle, unassuming, and kind with a razor-sharp wit.  His Grandchildren were the lights of his life.  They all loved him and will cherish their memories of "Grandpa Duck".  Gene lived a life he loved.  He was out golfing nearly every day with his friends, pouring over books on every subject, playing pool, and spending time with June at home or doing the activities they both enjoyed.   One of his favorite times of the year were his winters in California golfing with friends old and new, walking the beach with June and watching the pelicans and dolphins.  Gene loved spending time with his grandkids and daughters and always made time for chocolate ice cream and a good joke.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife June; daughters Susan Callister (Andy), Nancy Hershgold (Peter Nichols), and Diane Lee (Geoffrey); grandchildren Alexandra Spratling (Benjamin), Adam Callister, Jordan and Ashton Lee, Brandt Kempin, and Sam and Megan Hershgold; and siblings Lee Krogh, Linda McCabe, and Faye Sargent.  He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rita Krogh.

A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 Spring Lane, Salt Lake City. Following mass, friends and family are invited to the Benvengu center for a luncheon.

Gene lived across the way from me at Monte Cristo for several years. He and wife June were great neighbors and helped me out at various times Gene even painted part of my deck when I was slow finishing the project and he was tired of looking at the mottled look! June would send Gene over to water some plants on my deck when I was gone for a few days. He even made sure the silk ones got a drink I'm glad Gene "graduated" doing something he loved so much!
