Georgia Herron

September 21, 1934 - March 1, 2026

Georgia Floor Herron (Georgie, Grandma, GG) passed peacefully on March 1, 2026. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 21, 1934 to Greek immigrants, Andrew Vasiliou Flogeras (“Floor”) and Marie Trakas Floor, she left this life as a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a dear friend to many.

She lived her entire life in Salt Lake City, graduating West High School in 1952 and attending the University of Utah from 1952 to 1954. An absolutely stunning young Greek woman and member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, she had the honor of being named Sweetheart of Sigma Chi in 1953 and quickly caught the attention of a very handsome young Kappa Sig, Richard Herron. The two wasted no time and were married on August 17, 1954.

Throughout their marriage, she worked various jobs, but she always returned to what she loved most, being at home and raising her children.

After losing Richard to cancer in 1985, she did her best to stay busy. One avenue she especially loved was working at the Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau, where she formed many treasured friendships. She also held numerous volunteer positions. She was a people person through-and-through.

A truly classy woman, she was always dressed to the nines, her hair perfectly styled and her shoes and nails polished. She loved cooking and was famous for regularly trying out “new recipes” on her family and friends. She proudly admitted to having a sweet tooth, often proclaiming, “There’s always room for dessert.” Like her mother before her, it was nearly impossible to leave her house without carefully wrapped leftovers in hand.

As beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside, she had an endearing smile that lit up every room. Everyone who met her felt an instant connection and loved her dearly.

She loved the arts, travel, animals, children, playing bridge and bunco with her lifelong friends, and blackjack for pennies with her grandsons. What she loved most, though, was time with family. She was happiest when surrounded by family, and her smile was contagious.

She is survived by her three children: Cinthia (Bill), Jim (Annette) and Jeff (Kari); her sister Andrea (Hub); six fantastic grandsons: Chad (Stephanie), Andy (Caroline), Cody (Morgan), Nick, Jake (Becca) and Matthew; five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and her sweet cat, Muffin, who always snuggled her a little closer on the tough days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers Bill (Betty) and Manny (Nan); her longtime companion, Mike; and many dear friends.

She will be laid to rest during a private family graveside next to her husband at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. A celebration of her life will be on Monday, March 9, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.

Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.starksfuneral.com.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at The Ridge Cottonwood Assisted Living Center (simply too many to name), Utah Home Health and Hospice (especially her nurse, Jess), her physical therapist, Randy, and several close friends, all of whom showed her love, compassion, and exceptional care, contributing to the two bonus years we had to enjoy her company.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“There’s always room for dessert.”

In Loving Memory

Georgia was my second Mom. She was the most amazing, kind, fun lady I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. While she will be dearly missed on earth; heaven gained an angel.

I was fortunate to be one of Georgia's numerous friends. We became acquainted at the U. and our friendship continued throughout the years, including bridge club and many long lunches. Georgia would often comment about “sweet Jeff” her son who took care of her every need. I join her family and friends in mourning her passing.

“I’m so heartbroken about Aunt Georgia. I’ll always hold close those joyful holidays, Mother’s Days, and birthdays we shared at our family home and hers—the laughter, the delicious food, swapping recipes, and her warm, kind advice that meant the world to me. She made every moment feel full of love. May those beautiful memories wrap around you and bring some comfort now. Sending you all my love.
