Geraldean (Gerri) Kay Meyer

Geraldean Meyer was born on May 1, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Katrine (Asbridge) and Frank Murray.  She passed away on April 16, 2024, at 84 years of age.

Gerri graduated from South High and later earned a degree in nursing. While a nurse, Gerri worked at Holy Cross Hospital and a community clinic in SLC, UT.  

Gerri loved putting her mind to a project. In 1963, when she was 23 years old,  she worked alongside residents and local artists to create the “first annual” art show at the Blue Church in Park City.   That show outgrew the tiny church until 1969 when the artists launched the first outdoor Park City Art Festival. In 1965,  Gerri (age 25) opened the Meyer Gallery on Main Street in Park City, representing some of those same local artists.   Darrell worked full-time in SLC,  providing the income to launch the new gallery. He helped on weekends and holidays to support the now 59-year-old thriving business. Darrell and Gerri loved meeting local painters and sculptors and visiting New Mexico and Arizona to buy Native American rugs, pottery, and jewelry for the gallery.  

After retiring, Gerri worked tirelessly gathering historic photos and documents to get St. Christopher’s Mission in Bluff, Utah, added to the National Register of Historic Places. Alongside Rev. Cathlena Plummer, she set up a gift shop of native crafts at the Mission to create cash flow for the church.   Gerri worked toward the creation of the large and unique red-rock-themed stained-glass windows for St. Francis Episcopalian Church in Moab.  She enjoyed serving on the Millicent Rogers Museum board in Taos, NM.  

Darrell and Gerri were married for 66 years until he died in 2023. During that time, they lived in Castle Valley, UT, Park City, UT, Salt Lake City, UT, and Santa Fe, NM. 

They had a daughter, Susan (Andrew Pratt), a son, Dirk (deceased), and a granddaughter, Alanna Renee Jones. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn (Ted) Martin, and brother, Frank Murray (Linda). Special thanks to her long-time friend Julia Vandergrift and our gratitude to the compassionate staff of the Ridge Cottonwood and Canyon Hospice. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 3, 6-8:00 pm, at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E, Millcreek, Ut 84106. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance located on the north side of the building. All are warmly welcome to attend.
