Geraldine May Anderson

December 9, 1951 - August 10, 2023

Geraldine “Geri” May Anderson, age 71, passed away August 10, 2023 after a courageous battle with metastatic renal cell carcinoma, she was surrounded by people that love her very much.

She was born December 9, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was the third of six children born to Albert Condie and Marie Henning Jones.

Geri was a proud graduate of Cyprus High School. Her next big venture was marrying Glenn Abernethy, where she delightfully gained 3 bonus sons, Dennis, Joe and Ben (Sarah). During their marriage, they had two daughters, Barbi and Wendi (Clayton). Glenn was in the Army and they were stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Geri cherished her time in Germany where they chose to live off base in order to experience more of the culture, and settle in Weisbaden. She could reminisce about her life there for hours at a time, she always said that everyone should make a trip to Europe at least once in their lifetime. Up until she got sick, she loved visiting the Oktoberfest every year and enjoyed seeking out German stores and restaurants any chance she had, she truly loved the German culture. Geri and Glenn later divorced.

November 11, 1987 she married Richard Anderson, and she was happy to gain two more bonus kids, Mike (Nicole) and Michelle (Arthur). Some of her favorite memories she shares with her husband are the Alaskan cruise they went on, their trip down the Oregon coast where they visited some beautiful lighthouses, and their trip to South Dakota to see Mt Rushmore. They’ve enjoyed trips to Park City, the Oktoberfest, and long drives to see the leaves change colors in the gorgeous mountains of Utah. She always wished she could have traveled more, but she cherished the experiences she was able to fit in. They enjoyed being grandparents together and enjoyed celebrating their kids and grandkid’s accomplishments together.

Geri spent 27 years working as a cashier at Rock’s Travel Plaza. She loved working “the races” when Rocky Mountain Raceway was still there. She had so much pride in everything she did, and she considered everyone she worked with family.

Her Catholic faith was important to her, and her prayers were genuine. She was a devoted member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Kearns. When she struggled to make it to mass, she loved watching or listening to Catholic programs on tv.

Family was everything to her, she had immense love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, each of them holding a special place in her heart. She loved keeping up with everyone on social media, and if she couldn’t get a hold of you, she’d have no problem leaving a very long voicemail, we will cherish those messages forever. She truly enjoyed the simpler things, such as a good cup of coffee, a little shopping trip, or a nice visit with a friend or loved one.

In mom’s final days, so many people helped make sure she was comfortable and taken care of. Her face lit up from every visit she got from grandkids and great grandkids, all the artwork she had hanging on her wall from the kids made her so happy. We owe a huge thanks to Ashley and Jake for all of your hard working helping with Grandma at home, in the nursing facility and at the hospital. To Clay, for helping me get mom to her appointments and taking time off work to either be there with us or to stay with the kids so I could spend nights with her. Thank you to a very special CNA, Erika at Rocky Mountain Care who helped mom feel safe and loved, and to all of the doctors and nurses at Intermountain Medical Center that helped take care of mom in the ER, Neurocritical ICU, and the hospice floor.

She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her husband, children, all of her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, her surviving siblings, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. She was excited to be reunited with her parents, grandmama Ruth, her bonus son Dennis, and her little brother, Al.

A funeral service will be on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. There will be a viewing one hour prior. She will be laid to rest following funeral services at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City.

In Loving Memory

Wendi and family, I am very sorry for your loss. Your mom was so kind and loving. She always shared memories with me of the family and I loved that. I know how much she was loved and will be missed. Sending love and prayers to you and your family. Aunt Sherry

I'm so sorry for your (our) loss. I was proud to call Geri my  sister-in-law. I loved her dearly and I know she loved all of you with such a deep love too. What a sweet and generous lady she was....always thinking of others before herself. She has left quite an impression on the world. She was  one of a kind.   Much love and many prayers to all of you. Even though I haven't met many of Geri's children and Grandchildren, Dick, who is my cousin, and I have had long talks about each of you and especially Geri.  He loved her very much and I know he will miss her forever.  From the stories he told me, she was a delightful, loving, caring, funny wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  My sympathies to all of her family.  I am so sorry for your loss.
