Germaine Steele Wahl
October 27, 1943 - May 29, 2014
Germaine Wahl, beloved mother, sister and friend passed away on May 29th, 2014 from complications due to pneumonia. She was born in Grand Canyon, AZ on October 27, 1943 to Eddie and Sophie Steele. At the age of 17 a friend introduced her to the LDS church. She was baptized a short time later and was a devoted member of the church for the rest of her life.
Germaine was known for being a character, always making people laugh and befriending everyone with whom she came in contact. She was also a very generous and loving person, giving of her time and money to anyone in need. Her life revolved around her family, church and patriotism.
She served a mission in Florida and after her mission eventually settled in Salt Lake City. Here she met her future husband Tommy. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1976 and had one son. They divorced in 1987 but remained very close friends to the end.
She worked for Intermountain Healthcare for 38 years. Though she only had a high school diploma she worked her way up from her early years as a secretary to hold many management positions in the Informations Systems department, eventually retiring as an analyst and consultant in financial systems.
Germaine was also a gifted singer, and music was an incredibly important part of her life. She sang in many choirs and spent 30+ years serving in the church as ward chorister and choir director. She used music to express her devotion to God and her love of America.
She is survived by her son Ed, sister Vicki and many dear friends.

In Loving Memory
We wish to express our condolences to Eddie and Vicki. Germaine was a wonderful friend, neighbor and example of someone who serves the Lord. She was blessed with a wonderful talent of music and always willing to share her talent. She made others "want" to sing as she led the music. We will always think of her as we sing the hymns and miss her. She was proud of her country and glad to let others know that. Eddie, we love you and your mom. We are here for you. Thanks for sharing your mom with us.

Sister Wahl was such an amazing neighbor to me and my boys. Although we did not see due-to-eye on some topics, I always knew her heart was pure and meant no ill intent. Every time I see an American flag I will remember her love for America and her amazing patriotic spirit. Our family will miss Germaine Wahl.

I was privileged to work with Germaine for many years. She could solve any problem and was the expert on the Intermountain computer systems. I will miss her straight forward way. She is a great person.

I had the privilege of working with Germaine at Cottonwood Hospital and during her tenure with Information Systems. I thoroughly enjoyed her dry wit and straightforward approach. She was always willing to help, even when it was not her job. God be with you my friend.

Dear Family and Friends, I was so sad to hear of Germaine's passing last week. She is a good friend to all in our ward, and she is my friend. I can honestly say Germaine is the most flamboyant woman I know; she made things so fun. I loved her flashy clothes and jewelry and she enjoyed any bling I might have been weating at at the time. The children loved her in Primary when she brought about ten different hats for the kids to use in singing time. She is also the most outspoken person I think I've ever met. I can remember some really funny moments when she would blurt out anything that was on her mind, which was especially fun when I was teaching the Sunday School class! But she was also kind at the same time with her surprise comments. She is also generous. I spoke of a very neglected teen boy in one of my lessons. His health care had been so neglected that he had nothing but pointed stubs for teeth. My dentist agreed to help in giving this boy a smile he could be proud of and Germaine volunteered a financial gift, then offered more when I told her the wonderful difference it had made in this boy who shyly smiled for the first time I had ever seen him. I will miss Germaine so much. She will be the eternally fun and surprisingly direct woman many others and I have come to love. Janee Gillette

Eddie I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. Germaine was quite a fun lady to be around. I loved her patriotism and her bling! She was very generous. I remember trying to fund raise for our ward auction and she showed up with a lot of things for us to sale. That was so kind of her especially since she was no longer in our ward anymore. I can't imagine what kind of angel she will be till you meet again. Her wings will sparkle and of course she already had a voice like and angel.
