Gladys Irene Cannon
September 24, 1940 - May 13, 2021
Gladys Irene (Abell Brown Stucker) Cannon
Our mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend lived her life with appreciation for loved ones, family, and friends. She loved her independence, NFL football, penguin encounters at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, her bird Buddy and her (not so secret) crush Josh Groban.
On May 13, 2021, Gladys traveled to be with family and friends that have gone before her. Those that will be especially excited to embrace her will be her parents, son Robert Stucker and her dearest friend Glenda Lehman. She also could not wait to again see her husband and love of her life Gary Stucker who was taken from us after they had been married for 8 years. He meant the world to her. We are hopeful that they are together again.
Gladys was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 24, 1940 to Alta LaVon Metters and Edward Sipley White. At the age of five, she moved to Tescott, Kansas. Gladys loved Tescott and wished she had been able to raise her children there. She eventually moved back to Salt Lake City.
Gladys loved to travel. Some of her favorite places were San Francisco, San Diego, Lake Havasu, Tescott, and St. George. She enjoyed camping and the amazing Metters’ family reunions. Gladys’ dream was to travel to England, or “at least go to Hawaii”.
From 1990 – 1995, Gladys lived in Colorado where she worked as a Volunteer Coordinator. While there she also served as President of the Palisade Chamber of Commerce and was on the board for the Agency on Aging. She picked up skills very quickly and prided herself on her work ethic.
For the past thirty years Gladys lived alone and would always say that she was happy and content. She kept busy with her greeting card making business, crossword puzzles, watching NFL football, working on the computer, and completing puzzles on her iPad.
Gladys is survived by children: Tamara Blesch, Kenneth (Wendy) Brown, Kris (Charles) Herrera, Caroll (Jeff) Larsen, Wendy (Jane) Williams, Bob Stucker (deceased). She loved her grandchildren: Kimberlie (Jake) Peterson, Kristina Larsen, Nicole Brown, Ashley (Tony) Wallock, Brandon (Samantha) Brown, Rachelle Brown and her great grandchildren: Austin, Max, Jackson, Dax and Adelaide. Gladys is also survived by her three sisters: Annette May, Alta (John) Quillici and Thyera Burfield.
Thank you to the staff at Pointe Meadows Health and Rehabilitation. A special thanks to Karen for keeping us sane and giving Mom extra love and attention. Your heart is huge, and you will forever be known as Angel Nurse Karen. Thank you also to Ashby Hospice staff, especially C.N.A. Diana. Diana’s care given was as sweet and tender as could ever be. Finally, a warm and most heartfelt thank you to Mom’s neighbor and dear friend Dorothy Torrey. Without Dorothy our mom’s days would have been much less cheerful and she would not have been able to live independently for as long as she did. You are the best and we love you.
A celebration for Gladys will be on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. A graveside service will be Friday, May 21, 2021 at 11:00 am at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.
