Glee Bell Gaykowski

1932 – 2011

Glee Bell Gaykowski, 78, loved mother, grandmother, great grand-mother, and friend, left her earthly life on March 15, 2011.  She was born to Fannie Mahala Bell on March 31, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah, grew up in the Rose Park neighborhood, and attended West High School, a long time resident of Salt Lake City, and most recently living in Elko, NV.

For many years Glee worked at the University of Utah Hospital and Skaggs Corporation, in the Accounting Department as an administrative assistant, and in numerous local retail capacities.  Although quiet, simple and private, she always stayed busy and active, loved walking and being with family.  In her younger years she was an active bowler, both recreationally and in competitive league play.   Glee enjoyed being with her children and extended family. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, she was an accomplished seamstress, and was known by her family as a great cook.  She loved growing and nourishing indoor and outdoor plants, with her noted “green-thumb”, and enjoyed travel with her sister and family members.  Her smile will be missed, but always remembered.

She is survived by her daughter Sherrie Lynne Nielsen; sons Dewight Verholtz, Kerry Blake (Utahna) Verholtz, Rick (Carrie) Gaykowski, Mark Gaykowski; 20 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her mother, Fannie Mahala Bell, and sister Marva Bell Fitts.

A viewing for friends and family will be held from 11:00am – noon, Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, with a graveside service following at Elysian Burial Gardens.
