Gloria Morandi Demas

May 23, 1929 - May 28, 2021

Gloria Morandi Demas, age 92, passed away May 28, 2021 at home in Bountiful, Utah. She was the oldest of three children born on May 23, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Carl and Carmella Morandi. She married Kenneth Demas on August 25, 1950; they later divorced. Together they had two children Michael (Susan) Demas and Christine Demas Young.

Gloria retired from the Third District Court in 1995 after 25 years. Recognizing Gloria’s work ethic and knowledge of the District Court, she was soon asked to return to work in the information booth until her health began to decline at age 82. She was most disappointed when neuropathy robbed her of the ability to play golf on a women’s golf league with her friends. She also was an avid bridge player and a member of many bridge clubs throughout her lifetime.

Gloria was known for her selflessness, her fun personality and her traditional Italian cooking, especially around the holidays.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Carol Gerrard. She is survived by her brother Carl Morandi, her children, three grandchildren and spouses, one great-grandchild and many extended family members and friends. We want to thank Envision Home Health & Hospice for the loving care and attention given during her final days.

A Vigil will be on Friday, June 18, 2021 with the Rosary at 5:15 and visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Graveside services will be on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11:00 am at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Avenue & T Street, Salt Lake City. Please share your memories and photos with her family at www.starksfuneral.com.

In Loving Memory

I am saddened to hear of Gloria's passing.  She was a wonderful lady and I am happy I had the oportunity to work with her and get to know her.  My prayers are with the family during this difficult time.  May you find comfort and peace.  May her memory be eternal.   Denice DeCamp

I will always remember Gloria with great fondness.  I met her the first day that I hung out a shingle, in 1972.  My mentor was Jimi Mitsunaga, one of the preeminant criminal attorneys of the time. Jimi told me that he was taking me over to the Third District to meet "the most important people you will ever know as a lawyer."  We got on the elevator, and to my surprise, we went straight to the basement. The first clerk that we saw was Gloria Demas!  She was so kind and welcoming, promising to help me in any way that she could, a promise that she kept for many decades to follow.  Jimi was right, the "most important" people to know in the courthouse are the clerks, and Gloria was one of the best! In not too many years, I hope to be seeing your beautiful smile again.  With warmest wishes, Carl Buckland
