Gloria Ragnhild Bremer, 91, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 4, 1925 to Alexander and Alice Seeberg in New York City, NY.
Gloria is survived by three daughters, Alicia Bremer-Wharton (John) of Salt Lake City, Sarah Ley (the Rev. Lauren) of Philips, SD and M. Gloria Bremer of Bend, Oregon; five grandchildren, Matthew, Thomas, and Jonathan Ley, Alison Davis, and Xander Bremer, and 3 great-grandchildren, Jonah and Molly Ley, and Mason Ley. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lillian Hackbarth of Whitefish Bay, WI, and her brother Edward Loren Seeberg of Fox Point, WI.
Gloria was a dedicated minister's wife, community service provider, and enthusiastic traveler. After attending Queens College in NYC where she studied Chemistry, she worked in the field of allergy research for Cornell University Medical College.
Gloria married the Rev. J. Stephen Bremer in 1951. Together they served parishes in Toledo, Ohio; Elgin, IL , and Chicago, IL where Steve also served as Dean of Students at the Lutheran School of Theology. The family moved to London, England where Steve served as Sr. Representative in Great Britain and Ireland for the Lutheran World Federation and Gloria loved the British culture and international travel. In 1969, the family moved to Selinsgrove, PA where Gloria worked as a social worker. When Steve accepted the call as Senior Pastor at Luther Memorial Church in Madison, Gloria enjoyed her many responsibilities at the church as well as her job as Volunteer Coordinator for Oakwood Lutheran Homes.
After Steve passed away in 1990, Gloria kept up their love of European travel, and in 2005, Gloria moved to Salt Lake City to start a new chapter of life. In SLC, she was a member of the Cathedral Church of St. Mark, PEO, and a book club, and was a volunteer at the Cathedral's Hildegarde Pantry.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Cathedral Church of St. Mark, 231 East 100 South, Wednesday, December 28 at 11:00,, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be given to the United Way of Salt Lake City.
