Grafton Dodge Smith

December 3, 1961 - November 16, 2023

Grafton Dodge Smith lost his battle with esophageal cancer November 16, 2023.  From the date of his diagnosis February 14, 2023, he fought each day with a will to live.   He never complained.   He lived each day with grace and dignity.

Grafton was born December 3, 1961 to Lucy Barnett Smith (Campbell) and Clifford Warren Smith (Wolfe) in New York, New York.

Grafton was an avid skier and downhill racer.  His love for skiing is what brought him to Utah in 2001.  Grafton worked in the ski industry for many years.   Grafton also was a skilled craftsman of fly fishing.   The beauty and grace of his cast was a site to be seen and enjoyed.   He enjoyed Golf and had just recently taken up the sport of pickle ball which he was excited to start competing.    Grafton loved the outdoors, being active, great music and getting a good work out at the gym.

Grafton married J’Nette Bonner June 26, 2013.    J’Nette and Grafton shared many great adventures and formed everlasting memories.   J’Nette was beside him when he passed.

Grafton’s other best companion was Larry the Doberman.     You typically didn’t see one without the other.   Larry has struggled with the loss of his best Dog Dad.

At the time of Grafton’s passing, he was an employee of Costco, South Jordan.    He was proud to be associated with such a great organization and working alongside great individuals.

In honor of Grafton there will be a celebration of life held Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Millcreek UT from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.   Please join us in celebrating his life.

“What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose.   All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”  ~ Helen Keller

Grafton is survived by his wife J’Nette Bonner, Larry the Dog, family and friends.

In Loving Memory

So many memories of Graffie as a child. Sad that so many years have passed but happy that he had the loving companionship of J'Nette in his later years. Love from Aunt Fayal

I am very sorry to hear of Grafton's early departutre to the next life. He is probably already off fishing with James Barnett in the river of the Gods. And if he is --- then my boys will find them ! Lots of love to you Lucy and Fayal and Cas and James and darling sister Georgina , to name a few,,,I never really realized that Grafton was born just exactly two weeks before I was. I am sad he had to go so soon ~ but perhaps he's not far. I do believe the spirit leaves the body and his will have no end, I look forward to knowing him better in another lifetime ! Geri

I worked with Grafton for 7 years at DPS Skis.  He was  good friend and he taught me a lot about skis and skiing.  I am sorry he passed away so young.
