Grant Arthur Wiscomb

February 20, 1923 - October 10, 2015

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Grant Arthur “Bud” Wiscomb, 92, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015. Grant was born on February 20, 1923 at LDS Hospital in SLC to Arthur William and Irene Gallyer Wiscomb. He often spoke of how much he truly loved his parents. Grant loved his childhood growing up in the downtown and avenues area.  He attended Lowell School, Bryant Jr. High, and West High School while living at his parents home at 278 “D” Street. His family will never forget this address with many fond stories of his childhood on the avenues.
Grant served in the US Army during World War II in the China, Burma, India theater. During this time, his mother found a beautiful girl to correspond with him while away and when he came home, he asked her to marry him. On March 23, 1946 Dorothy Bohling became his better half. He said it was the best thing he ever did. He and Dorothy purchased his childhood home and stayed there until 1960 when Dorothy could no longer handle all of the remodeling to make way for a growing family and told Grant that she had had enough and wanted a new home. Being the good and smart husband, they moved to the Millcreek area. Grant enjoyed every aspect of his life. From his childhood to his family and his 35 plus years working for Mountain Bell Telephone Company.  He truly loved his job and took great pride in his work. He and Dorothy and their good friends started the “Poker Group” and played cards every month for over 40 years. As members of the group passed away, Grant was sorry to see it end in 2005. He was the final living member of the group.  Grant loved golfing with his buddies and especially enjoyed family and friend parties. There was no one more proud of his own family than Grant. He always loved to tell anyone who would listen about his children and their families. Grant is survived by his four kids: Shawna (Rick) Martin, Shelley (Gail) Blundell, Robert (Lisa) Wiscomb, and Judy (Troy) Watanabe; his 10 grandchildren: Eric (Kari), Jake (Holly), and Candice Martin; Adam (Marzena) and Julie Blundell; Nicole and Ashley Wiscomb; and Haley, Josh, and Max Watanabe; His 5 great-grandchildren: Whitney, Taylor and Luke Martin, and Abby and Ellie Blundell.  Grant’s son-in-law, Troy Watanabe, was his amazing care-taker and friend for many years. We thank him for his loving service to dad.
Grant was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife Dorothy and son-in-law Rick Martin. In Grant’s own words if he had to do it all over again he would do it exactly the same way.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, October 15, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S. 900 East, Salt Lake City where complimentary valet parking will be available. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 16, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bountiful Cemetery 2224 S 200 W, Bountiful, UT.
