Gregory Howard Bateman

July 29, 1945 - March 26, 2019

We lost an incredible husband, father, papa, brother, son and friend when Gregory Howard Bateman passed away with family by his side March 26, 2019.

Greg began his journey on July 29, 1945 when he was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Rex Allen and Viola Mary Bateman. He was the third of four boys and raised in Magna, Utah.

Greg was always dedicated to the project or task at hand whether it be installing an electrical outlet or joining the Army to serve in South Korea during Vietnam. He was a compassionate man. Selfless in all he did. This was reflected in his career choices with over 35 years in the public education sector as a coach, educator, school counselor and career director for Kearns High School.

Greg made one of the smartest decision in 1971 when he married Christine. Together they raised two children, built their home in Bountiful, Utah, where they resided for 30 years where they boated the lakes of Utah. Family was everything to Greg. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his wife, kids and grandkids. He was still installing ceiling fans in his kids’ homes and pumping his wife’s gas up until the end.

Many of Greg’s loves in life were golf, coffee and a good long island iced tea. He had many local eateries he frequented and enjoyed going to brunch with his friends on Friday mornings. He spent endless hours in his yard meticulously landscaping every inch creating a sanctuary for family and friends to enjoy. His organizational skills were showcased in his shed and garage where every nail, zip tie and tool he had accumulated over the years had a home.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Christine Bateman, son Samuel (Caroline), daughter Kia (Chad), and two grandchildren Madeleine and Milo.

A Celebration of Life will be on Thursday, April 4, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building. A private graveside will follow for the family.

His family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Institute and spinal rehab facility, Heidi Lawrence, Brandon Aegerter and the amazing staff of Encompass Hospice and Dr. Scott Samuelson who cared for him through his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Greg’s name to the Huntsman Cancer Institute by clicking the link above to the left.

Please check back soon for tribute video which will be posted above.

I had only recently reconnected with Greg. He had been my first boyfriend when we were 5 or 6 yrs old. I think I loved his freckles and that he was so nice. I was pretty smart in kindergarten, picking such a nice boy to hold hands with. I'm sorry for your lose, but grateful he was in your lives.
