Gregory S. Fata
November 4, 1949 - June 18, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory S. Fata on Tuesday, June 18th at the age of 74. He was born November 4th, 1949 in Salt Lake City, UT to Charles Fata and Afton Gleason. He graduated from Judge Memorial Highschool in 1968; he enlisted and served in the Army Reserves from 1970-1975. He obtained his Associates degree in Accounting from Salt Lake Community College and Bachelors Degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix.
He married in 1974 and is survived by his three sons, David C. Fata, Nicholas J. Fata and Jeffery S. Fata, four grandchildren; Lindsay Adams, Jordan Fata, Cayden Fata and Samantha Fata; four great grandchildren; sister Nicky Sharp and was preceded in death by his brother Michael Fata. He was a great dad, brother, uncle, grandpa, and great grandpa.
He worked for his entire career for the State of Utah, starting out with Parks and Recreation and retiring from UDOT after 30+ years. He fulfilled many positions within the different agencies and specialized in the IT field.
He was very dedicated to youth sports especially when it came to his children. He was always the first one to volunteer to coach and help in anyway he could. He coached all three sons in baseball, was the commissioner of the AYSO soccer league in Sandy when it was first organized. He continued this enthusiasm to his grandkids and great grandkids and rarely missed a game, no matter what kind of ball it was.
He was a very active member of Blessed Sacrament Parrish in Sandy, UT. He was a man with many hats ranging anywhere from bookkeeping to Bingo from Bible class to helping with the school. He conducted the RCIA classes for many years and was the most welcoming, kind-hearted, and faithful person we knew. He will be missed dearly.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 29th at Blessed Sacrament Church (9757 S. 1700 E. Sandy, UT) at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held the night before on Friday, June 28th at 6:00 p.m. with the Rosary at 7:00 p.m., also at Blessed Sacrament Church.
In lieu of flowers, Greg would appreciate donations to the American Diabetes Association.
We miss you and love you dad!

Our condolences go out to you and your family, Greg will be sorely missed. There are so many things I’d like to say about this great man. My family has known Greg for years but definitely not as long as many others have known him. Our kids/grandkids grew up together and we saw him often at sporting events, and he was always a fixture at church bingo and the church festivals. Greg lived the life of a true Catholic and was a true example of what it means to be catholic and live your faith. He was always my families goto guy when we had questions, needed a story, or just needed someone to listen he was truly a great guy and the world is truly a little bit less bright without without him in it.

Dear David, Nick, and Jeff, was so stunned and shocked when Jamie told me. Greg was a good friend and neighbor since moving into our neighborhood. We had many delightful talks about Everthing! When my Mom died he came to the viewing and rosary and her funeral mass. He was funny as all get out, kind, smart, and very spiritual. I will miss the walks we were going to have in our mutual recoveries. God bless him and comfort you. Hugs, Pat

We're very sorry to hear of Greg's passing. Being as we were very close to Nicky in our younger days Greg was younger and we didn't get to know him too well until later. Whenever we ran into Nicky it seemed they were always together and obviously were very close to each other. He was always so outgoing and friendly at those times and we feel so sad for Nicky and Greg's family. I'm sure he was welcomed by his Mom and Dad and Mike and extended family and of course Fr. Flegge!!!God bless all of you at this time and know we have him and you in our prayers. Carmen and Larry Ontiveros
