Gwendolyn Ann Green Oakden

“Hug ‘Em All”

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on July 11, 2011 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on December 8, 1938 in Tooele, Utah to Bush Lawrence Green and Ruth Thomas Edwards.  She married William C. (Bill) Oakden, Jr. on March 8, 1959 and was blessed with three loving children.  Her children, grandchildren and great -grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved them with all her heart.  Gwen was adored by all that knew her and always had an ear to listen, she was a confidante to many and always made you feel special.  Her laugh was contagious and her smile could light up a room.  Our Mom left behind loved ones that will miss her dearly, her husband Bill, her son William C “Bill” (Suz) Oakden III, Vickie Oakden and Becky (Casey) Valdez; her grandchildren Casey (Annie) Valdez IV, Brittney (Ben) Jones, Brandy (Tyler) Raleigh, Corey (Kelly) Sweat and Leslie Sweat; eight great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Paige, Olivia, Jayson, Tianna, Christian, Wyatt and Casey V that is on his way; nieces; nephews; brothers Clifford Green and Vern Green; sisters Ruth Atkinson and Jo Hayes; and many friends who she considered family (including her blue-eyed daughter Laurie Mace) and special friend Jeanine Casper.

Mom will be reunited with her mom, dad, sister Gail Green, brother Tommy Green, and grandson, Billy.

Friends are invited to join the family at a Celebration of  Gwen’s Life on Thursday, July 14th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.  Interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Beaver, UT.

My sincere deepest sympathy to the entire Oakden family. You truly did have the best Mom anyone could ask for. She was such a genuine lady and loved everyone, and in return she was loved back. No one could ever say a bad thing about her. I will miss her and her phone calls. Much love to you all.

Losing Gwen is like losing a sister and second mother to my kids (even though they are middle aged adults now)! I can't tell you how many wonderful memories we have of our adventures together raising our families. I have truly lost the closest friend I've had in my lifetime. My heart, as does the hearts of the whole Outsen family, goes out to all of the Oakden and Green families. We have lost one of the world's jewels!

Dear Uncle Bill, Cousins ; Bill, Vickie and Becky My heart was heavy with the news of your mothers passing. She was a truly remarkable person and her contagious smile and caring nature was a comfort in my youth and never far from my memories, as I have remembered that smile often. I was comforted and cheered by the beautiful memorium , because no truer words could have described your mother and wife. Thank you for sharing her I will forever treasure how she touched my life with a hug and smile. My prayers go out to you and I know for certain heaven is now a much better place. She was a beautiful person and no doubt that she is proud of you as well. I am so sorry for your loss! LOVE YOU AUNT GWEN, Thank you for touching and inspiring us all. Darin

Becky, Brandy, Brittney and the whole family- I am so sure that your mom/grandmother knew how much you loved her and that you all brought so much joy to her life. My heart is with you now as you recall all the great moments you shared, and I sincerely hope you will find peace in those memories. Love you all so much.

We will miss the Celebration of Llife this evening because of a commitment to our granddaughter. Grandma Gwen would certainly understand that! I enjoyed every conversation I had with her enormously. She made me feel special and welcome, and, of course, she made me laugh. Gwen and I had fun dancing together at Casey and Annie's wedding. "We Are Family!" will always be our song. Love to all of you wonderful Oakdens and ValDezes.

Gwen is truly one of the sparkles of this world. Anyone who had the great opportunity to spend time with her knows how very much she enjoyed every moment and always "took the time to dance." We will miss her and that beautiful smile always. Much love to the entire Oakden family.
