Harry Renfro III
June 25, 1949 - March 26, 2023
Harry Renfro III, “H,” passed away at age 73, surrounded by loved ones, on March 26, 2023. Harry was known for his big personality, as an avid runner and a sports fanatic. Over the years, he fought several illnesses with continued perseverance. In 2006, Harry received a heart transplant. He acknowledged his donor Richard Lance Warren for this beautiful gift of life. It was a blessing that Harry never took for granted. Harry developed a loving relationship with Lance's family, his mother, Bobbie Gottfried, his sisters Tara Warren and Christi Barton (Shane) and nieces and nephew through this gift. The Renfro family thanks the Warren family for the added years we received with Harry.
Harry was born in Harlan City, Kentucky. His father served in the military, requiring the family to move to California. Harry spent most of his formative years in Oceanside, California. He moved to Salt Lake City in mid-1970. Harry spent most of his life working in television production as a cameraman, developing lifelong friendships. Harry's love of sports led him to anchor the A.M. Sports coverage on KUTV, where he gave his signature “BOOM” with every home run highlight. Later in his career, he became a youth counselor at the Salt Lake Valley Detention Center, where he used his life experiences to mentor kids.
Harry is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Long, and father, Harry Renfro Jr. He is survived by his wife, Mary Renfro of 44 years of marriage, daughter Nichol Bourdeaux, son Nicholas Renfro (Teresa) sisters Beverly Ross (Johnny – deceased) Caroline Burton (Kenneth) and Avis Smith, brothers Aaron Renfro (Beverly) and Andre; grandsons Zeke and Amani and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Harry’s life will be on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East. Guests are encouraged to use the parking and entrance at the north side of the building. Harry will be laid to rest on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 1 PM at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road. A viewing will be held from 11AM-12 PM, prior to services, at Starks Funeral Parlor.

Mary, I don't know if you remember me, but Harry and I worked at KUTV together. I always loved him, he was a ray of sunshine when he came to work. He always had a smile on his face and would help anyone who needed help. We had a special bond while working there. He nicknamed me "Red" because of my red hair. I will never forget him and you and your family. I remember him bringing Nicholas around so I could see him after he was born. I'm so very sorry to hear of his passing. May the Lord bless you and your sweet family. He truly was someone I will never forget.

I'm so sorry aunt Mary Nicole and Nicolas for your loss. I came across this my dad told me that that your dad passed this is your cousin Lisa Tommy's daughter. . I'm so sorry for your loss but your dad did amazing things. I remember one morning I turned on the world news and I was like hey that looks like my uncle. my aunt Mary's husband and it was him I still remember like it was yesterday when Nicholas put a little vitamin up his nose, and showed us the curling iron was hot. I pray that you alway celebrate uncle Harry's life and all the wonderful memories of him. I can't tell you how many times I listen to this beautiful eulogy of your lives together it was not alway easy, but it was always worth it. You've got amazing children aunt Mary and beautiful grandchildren and he left a legacy you were so beautiful together. I know the loss is hard but he's forever with you in your heart. I could see you have many other beautiful people in your lives all the wonderful places you went together, his time was taken to soon but I'm sure he's one of the biggest angels in heaven now.
